How Should I Feel 4 days post-op?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember how they felt 4 days post-op? My lower back hurts so bad and I had no idea I would be this sore. I really don't want to have to be dependent on pain medicine too long. I've been trying to walk some but the back pain prevents me from standing up too long. I am urinating quite frequently. Trying to sip and attempted a SF popsicle yesterday. Had to start on GAS X last night. Is this normal the way I feel or do you think there could be a problem? I have a call into my doctors office but no one has called me back yet. I just thought I would be moving around better by now.

I was sore for about a week because of gas. So I just walked as much as possible and took those Gas X strips. Those will become your friend. You will also be very tired. But every day you will feel better.

Congratulations

I had my surgery on Monday, and yesterday was rough but I am feeling better today. I have lots of pain and gas and I just keep moving around it is helping, but nothing you are describing seems out of the ordinary. They really get in there and tug and pull so I am sure things will be sore for a while

Are you having to wear a compression wrap around your belly? I think this thing is making me uncomfortable too. Thanks for your help.

I've been anxious to hear how you were feeling!! I just got home from the hosptial about an hour ago and OMG it feels so good to be home! I posted my story (long!) just now!

So, as for how I am feeling today being 4 days out I am doing pretty good! I am not wearing a compression wrap and I am having a lot of gas pains. My pains are right under my left breast and it moves into my shoulder and sometimes in a back but it doesn't prevent me from being up and moving. I did notice I just seem to tire easy when I am up and moving! Doc said I can use my heating pad while at home to help with the gas (because I know my body and that always helps me)! I also have the Gas X strips but they haven't seemed to help at all :(

I am up to 60cc of Fluid an hour and have had two popsicles and a little hot tea over the past two days!

I hope your pain subsides quickly for you!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
