Recovery

Recommended Posts

I am a first grade teacher that is going to be sleeved in January. I need to have my lesson plans prepared for my substitute teacher. How long is the average recovery? Typically, how long does a doctor keep you off of work?

I think it varies, but my doctor told me to take two weeks. Which I couldn't, but I have a desk job, so I managed after 10 days ok. I would say take two weeks at least. More if you can. I was feeling right as rain by week 3, but then there is the whole getting back on solid or mushy food thing that follows...Im sure others will chime in with their experience. always good to have a backup plan in case you need to stay out longer, too, of course...

I say, give yourself 2 weeks. I found that even though I was gung-ho to go get stuff done after a week, I'd tire out very quickly. If you start earlier, you may crash after a few hours on the job. Plus who knows how easy of a recovery you're going to have. Mine was relatively uneventful, off painkillers after day 5, but I've seen posts about people who were in quite a bit of pain.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
