Lifestyle after surgery question.

Recommended Posts

I am waiting for approval from insurance so I have alot of questions.

Do doctors have aftercare programs other than just doing fills? Like do we meet with a Nutritionist or Exercise Physiologist? Or is just hanging out on this board enough? What have you all found that has been the most helpful after your wls???

Thanks in advance for the answers. I just love this web site!!!

Hi Teresa ~ Most programs include both things you mentioned, a nutritionist and some sort of exercise program in addition to a nurse. I see the nutritionist EVERY time I have an appt with the surgeon. Also, most do offer monthly support groups where you can talk with others face to face. I was the only lap band person when I attended, so I use this place for my support. Eventually, I would like to see them get a monthly support group for lap band patients....we'll see.

Good luck and keep asking questions. Be a sponge and absorb as much as you can. I strongly believe success with the band comes from knowledge. Arm yourself with as much as you can.

Teresa, most have you meet with a nutritionist and psych. as least pre-band. Some have you continue post-band. Some also have support groups.

I'd suggest to do what the surgeon requires, but also at-least meet with the support. See what kind of vibe you get. Are they supportive toward lapbanders or do they treat you like a gastric bypass patient? Do you feel like they listen to you? This will at least point you in the right direction.

Some folks need more support than lapbandtalk. Although, I have to say LBT is a terrific support!

My surgeon includes 2 dietician appointments and 2 exercise physiologist appointments with his fee for surgery. After that if you want to see either of them, you pay.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
