Nervous- Am I making right decision?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to have sleeve this Wednesday. Getting nervous and wondering if I am making right decision. Do people start to regain their weight a couple years after having this surgery? Also, I am worried about loose skin. My BMI is 34 and I am 38 years old. PLEASE HELP!

I think just about everyone goes through what you are going through. I know I did... It scares you to think that you are altering your body for a whole life style change. I even wondered after the surgery when I was watching all them commercials for food knowing I cant have those things.

I was told that with the sleeve, you will stretch it out to hold about a cup and that's pretty much it. Since they remove the lower part of your stomach its less likely to stretch since that is the part that does all the stretching. Not saying its impossible though, just not as easy. Its definitely a lifestyle change. I used to always be in a hurry, shoveling food in my mouth as Im running out the door. I made that mistake the other day and got the 2nd spoonful in and when I swallowed, my stomach reminded me I cant do that anymore.

I worked on getting my surgery for almost a year and no way was I going to change my mind! I'm only 3 weeks into it and just starting on the "soft food" and have no regrets.

By the way, my BMI was only 36, but tried everything else to lose weight and could not. Not only did I do this to be skinny again, but to help my other medical issues I had.

Hi, I had my sleeve done 2 weeks ago and for months I was so excited it was all I thought about. The weekend before my surgery I was so upset and the day of the surgery, in the hospital I just kept thinking I don't want to do this anymore. I was crying and feeling this was a mistake. The doctor was there trying to calm me down along with my family, I was an emtional mess. I finally decided just to go through with surgery even though I wasn't sure and honestly even after surgery and for the next few days I was feeling like I made a mistake. But after I started feeling more like myself I have not regretted the surgery for a second. I realized I was just afraid of the unknown and I'm so glad I didn't give into my fear.

Good luck with your surgery,

Janine

Your BMI is pretty low I dont think you will need to worry about loose skin. If you carry most of your weight in your belly and the rest of your body is pretty small then you could possibly end up with some skin issues on your tummy but I dont think it would be a really bad case of loose skin. I had similar BMI and I am not having loose skin issues so far and I am down to 27 BMI. Exercise will help keep the body toned while you lose weight.

I had my sleeve on 9/24/10 and that morning i really thought of calling in and cancelling the surgery! however now it's the best thing i could of ever done for my self! 7 weeks post-op and i have lost 30 pounds already, i feel better pysically and my self esteem is on the rise! Watch out now! Good luck to you and it's only normal to get nervous :)

To be honest with you--There was not a single doubt in my mind that I wanted to do this.

I was not worried or scared about it. What scared me was--dying. Not from the surgery but from NOT having the surgery.

Good luck! Keep us posted...

Today is Wednesday, so will be your surgery day, so good luck! I think its natural for anyone going in for such major surgery to panic - this is a good thing, as it shows you're aware of all the risks it entails and that it will be a life changing thing for you.

Any surgery carries a risk, but as Sac Girl said, so does being overweight.

I've not regretted my sleeve..... I do think sometimes long term how things will be.... when I am a pensioner etc.... but having dropped almost 45lbs I am much more confident, happier and healthier than I was before, and know I could not have done this on my own.

I am 42, and have yoyo'd with my weight since I was about 18. I do have some skin issues, but hope to minimise them by joining a gym and building up some muscle to fill the baggy bits.

I had my surgery yesterday and everything went well. I woke up crying yesterday and today in the hospital . I am home from hospital now and I am really anxious and worried that I may have made the wrong decision because I have NO control now!! I won't hardly be able to eat even after a few months will I? I am a stress eater, so, what anyone else anxious and crying like this? HELP! I feel like I am going crazy.

oHHHH YES I am sure plenty of us did that. I know the only reason I did not do it at the hospital was because I was so far from home and was trying to be strong. I was feeling it though. I also knew that my mom who was with me would have been sympathetic but she would have pointed out that I needed to stick by my decision as it was too late to cry over spilled milk. I had to take some ativan (anti anxiety meds) to help me relax while in the hospital I wasn't in real pain so I didn't want pain meds so the ativan took the edge off and i was able to rest and relax a bit.

You will heal you will enjoy your food again and things will turn around rather swiftly. Just try to remain as calm as possible and know you wont feel like you do right now for long.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
