1 month out

Recommended Posts

what was everyone eating at 1 month out. I'm so bored with cottage cheese and yogurt and Protein Shakes but I need them. I just recently switched to muscle milk choc flavored, the 4 pack cause the 11 oz have 22 grams of Protein.

Any suggestions would be great!!

Kim

Hi Kim :) You made it! You're one month out! (I NEVER thought I'd get here, I'm one month out, too. :))

Anywho, yes, I'm one month out too, and my nut said that I could go to eating anything at this point, just try to lay off the carbs and don't eat nuts or red meat until 6 months out. So, I've been eating everything. I'm not sure what you "can" eat, like what your nut suggests, but I like to take a piece of ham and put cream cheese and a chive in the middle, a mozzarella string cheese stick, no sugar added apple sauce, sugar free pudding and Jello, cream of broccoli soup-the healthy request one, pieces of lunch meat, egg salad, chicken salad, turkey sausage-it's very soft, turkey hot dogs, and watermelon. That stuff-some of it anyways, is high Protein, low carb. Obviously the watermelon and apple sauce have some carbs in them, but they go down fine and my nut said they were okay. Good luck!

Are you allowed scrambled eggs? Slice of lunch meat like ham, turkey, chicken? How about cream cheese or laughing cow cheese (not sure if you get that in the states. chicken or beef broth or the packet from Ramen noodles (DO NOT eat the noodles just the packet). Peanut Butter (1 tbsp) with a scoop of Protein powder (called a sludge) I can not remember who suggested that on here but I sure have remembered that. Are you allowed soft flakey fish fillets? tuna in the can mixed with dill pickle relish.

I am not sure what stage of foods you are at but you can judge as to what you can have now and what you will have to wait to have.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
