Carbs and chewable supplements

Recommended Posts

I usually get around 80 carbs a day and more than half of that comes from chewable multis & Calcium and glucosamine liquids. I can take itty bitty pills and capsules but anything larger comes back up. Cutting them up doesn't help and if I crushed them, I would have to put them in something like SF pudding or applesauce to somewhat hide the taste. Which means more carbs. I have gained and lost the same two pounds for weeks now and have tried to shake up my diet by going up and down with calories but the carbs have to stay over 50 even if I ate nothing but pure Protein. I alternate very light weight lifting days with varying types of aerobics. My measurements have NOT decreased, in fact, they have increased in some areas.

When I lost weight on Medifast a few years ago, I lost very well by staying under 100 carbs (and was always hungry!) and, when the scale refused to budge, I could look forward to a new dress size. I feel like I am losing out on the fastest weight loss period after surgery since I am only a couple of months out and I am getting supremely frustrated. I know everyone loses at their own pace but they DO lose!!! And I understand stalls but never expected to be in one 4 out of the 9 weeks after surgery!

I can tell you in my case, I am 9 weeks out, I have had stalls (one for 10 days)- stalls are normal- I dont go over 30 -35 carbs ever! Seems like the more carbs you eat, the hungrier you get! I exercise twice a day 30-40 min each time 7 days /week, just trying to get my metabolism up. I feel great! I think if I had 80 carbs/day I would prolly stop losing and gain!!

I just received my samples from www.alternavites.com today in the mail. I am currently taking gummies but they don't have all of the nutrients that we are supposed to have and I can't stand the chewable Vitamins - the chalky taste in my mouth gags me. These Vitamins are crystals that you put on your tongue to dissolve.

With the sample they sent me they sent a code for a 10% discount so here it is FS10. Sounds like a good alternative to chewable or "must swallow" vitamins. I'm going to try them next week when I get back into town.

I couldn't handle the chewables for several reasons. I now take over the counter prenatal Vitamins on my drs advice. I don't know if they are too big for you to keep down. Also, I switched to "UpCal D" it's a powder that you mix with Water or a prot shake (3 g of carb). I get them from Amazon and they are pretty cheap too. Good luck.

Maddie, what does that Calcium powder taste like?

I quit taking my supplements for two days and lost a pound each of those days. I took them again and gained a pound back!

This is really making me crazy. I tried to take a multi pill again today and it tried to come back up again. cry_smile.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
