4 weeks today and feeling BLOATED and SAD

Recommended Posts

Today - I was the sexiest shopper in Walgreens - I purchased Gas X strips - because my stomach feels so bloated and almost pregnant - cant even suck it in, and I am constipated, so I bought liquid stool softener - on top of that gorgeousness, I also have a cold - so threw in some cold medicine. I have been up and down the same 3 pounds for 4 days - taking in MAYBE 600 calories a day - and exercising...I think my body is revolting against me...please tell me this will go away soon and the weight will drop again!

This will DEFINITELY go away!!!!

You are falling right in line with what so many of us went through. That first month or so is so hard. Your body is recovering ... your emotions are all over the board ... and the first stall hits.

Just keep going. Take it easy & don't expect too much too soon. You will get through this & it will be a blur soon. PROMISE!!!!!

This will go away! I suffered from awful Constipation until six weeks out, when I went on regular foods. I haven't had a single episode of constipation since. I didn't have much gas, but my friend who also underwent surgery did. Her gas discomfort lasted also up to six weeks. What did both of us wonders was papaya, blueberries, and prunes for constipation (this was and still is part of my daily diet) and walking for the gas. Good luck and God bless you.

I've been there too BELIEVE ME! Good call on the stool softner LOL! You will get through this. That happened to me the week of OCT 31, I hit 179, then went 180, 181, 179, and back and forth for a week UGH!!! Then this week BAM 179, 178, 177 and today 176. It's so difficult when you're stuck in it, this too shall pass :).

Thanks so much - Ive been going 176 to 179, up and down all week! Helps to know other people went through this - I'm sure everyone feels like - I'm the one person who this isn't going to work for! The first 28 pounds flew off! Wish that pace would keep up!

Can I ask what you all were eating at 4 weeks and what type of exercise you were getting - the bloating feeling makes it rough!

Thanks!

I am ashamed to say I dont exercise. I don't have enough energy (I know, I know excuses lol). I was on a full liquid diet at 4 weeks (anything that went through a straw).

Dear sleeve, i thought we were not suppose to use straws, or is that just in the beginning? i miss my straw and feel like i swallow more air without the straw. does full liquid mean like blended chili or ministrone Soup etc....? thanks vicki

You are correct :)...I asked my surgeon the same thing at my post op (almost 3 weeks out) and he said it was ok as long as I didn't take in any air at the end of a drink. I was so happy, cuz I love my straw. Yes full liquid means Soups, smoothies, cream of wheat, etc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
