Do you really need to remember to eat?

Recommended Posts

Is it true that you must remind yourself to eat with the sleeve? .....Do you have any sensations of being hungry? I have heard conflicting stories. I would appreciate hearing about others experiences. I

Yes, I still have to remember to eat. I have an appetite, food tastes great, and I still love food, but I don't remember to eat unless I sit still long enough to remember. I do not get a true hunger pang, nor do I feel physical hunger at all. During my losing stage, I had to set an alarm on my cell phone to remind me to eat every few hours.

Even at 17 months out, I still forget to eat. So, for me, and my experience, I do not remember to eat and I have to remember to eat every day. It doesn't bother me in the least. I'd much rather forget to eat than be stark raving hunger.

I'm the exact opposite, I sometimes have to remind myself NOT to eat, especially if I'm home or somewhere else where food is quickly available. I definitely get hungry after not eating for 3-4 hours, although the hunger is not as intense as it was before the surgery.

I do get hungry when I haven't eaten for a few hours, but nothing like the hunger I used to experience, like BBJ said earlier. I get full of course after a few bites of whatever or even a cup of coffee, and I can easily not eat even if i am hungry and the hunger seems to go away, it's great :D

I don't remember to eat at all -- it can be a pain because I don't have an internal clock (I'm always late!) -- so when I think it's noon, it's 2 or 3 pm. And I've missed lunch, I have to eat and then I have to make dinner in 3 hours -- I know it sounds good, but for me, without my internal clock, it's a pain. I'm taking Tiff's suggestion and gonna set an alarm for me to eat

Funny how we are all different. Taking this poll will in no way indicate how you will do. I still get normal hunger pangs and eat about every 3 hours. The saving grace here, for every one of us, is that whether we get hungry or not, we can only eat so much at one sitting. This this is the one common factor that will help us all realize our goals of becoming healthy again.

Wow my entire post deleted! Bah!

Ok well, long story short here... I do feel real physical hunger but only after not eating in the last 6 hours. It also will depend what I ate at my last meal. Good OR Bad carbs will make you feel more hunger, however for me - ones with higher Fiber will last longer.

I also can forget to eat.

That is all. ;o)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
