Weird nerve pain helped by Spanx?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm 3 weeks post op, and I'm doing GREAT! My only large complaint is one sharp pain to the left of my navel. The nearest incision is about 3-5 inches above where the pain is, but I'm guessing that's where some nerve was cut and it's affecting the area below. The pain seems to be gravity related, where I don't get it lying on my back, or mostly when sitting up or back, but leaning forward or rolling to either side in bed starts the pain.

I asked my doctor about it. He said the incision closest to there was the biggest, and as such, there is a stitch (or stitches?) deep inside there that he used to shut the hole. It feels like I can feel that stitch tugging. Im assuming that this will go on until the nerves rearrange themselves, a month or two? Its weird in that the SKIN in that area can be super painful, just to brush against the skin can be painful, but in the same area, there are Patches of skin that are numb, and I don't feel anything there. That's my clue that there is some nerve damage. It's got to be.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I read the thread on wearing wraps and body shapers, and I was inspired to dig through my closet. I found a pair of Spanx that I forgot I bought! From above the knee to just under the bust, it feels really good to wear them, to "hold my guts in", and cover the incisions, and it does help defy gravity from pulling on my "stitch" or whatever that pain is. All my other incisions are great, and the scars are healing up great.

Be glad for any thoughts on this pain, or to see what any one else did about it, if they had it....

Thanks!

I had the exact thing, in fact if you look on the 2nd or 3rd page you might see my post... it's called "lower left pain." My doctor told me the same thing about the sutures deep in there used to stitch whatever it was they cut. He said they will dissolve by 6 to 8 weeks out. Thank goodness when they did! It was a nagging pain that just went on and on after everything else seemed to feel fine. And then one day, the pain was just gone. Voila, they dissolved I guess! Good luck with waiting it out.

Oh! See, he didn't tell me the stitches were going to dissolve! That makes sense, and glad to know I will wake up one day and it will be gone!

Thank you so much!

I had the same issues with my c-sections. The pain was not on the incision but around it. It lasted a while and I had some good luck with compression too. I'm pretty sure its called referred pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
