Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery on November 5th. I am feeling pretty good. I just want real food for a change! I want a boiled egg or a sweet potato anything but liquids! Can anyone tell me how they beat this feeling. I have lost 10 lbs since surgery day!

WOw, good for you shelby, i was sleeved on nov 1, and i was on here crying like a baby, i would have eaten anything if i could, and everyone told me it was normal, and to just breathe and focus, i dont recommend this, ask your doctor, but honestly the only thing that got me through was chewing sugar free gum, i chewed tons of it just for the flavor and the chewing, it satisfied me enough to get me through the last 9 days, i go tomorrow for my 10 day post op and this morn i was down 9 lbs since surgery day. hang in there, it does get better.....:D

Hey Shelby, and WELCOME!!! :)

You know, it's really really tough the first month post op. You've only just begun and you are a baby sleever. But, thank goodness there are so many here who can help you through this tough time. I'm only 2 months out, but that time is still very fresh in my memory bank.

Here is what helped me cope and keep on track... Well, if you go off course you can and will run the risk of serious damage to your body. You can cause a leak by eating real food right now. Just hang in there... maybe try mixing up the flavors you're intaking. I went to BevMo and bought some Splenda sweetened Torani syrups in a multitude of flavors. This really helped a huge deal. I got every flavor I could find in the sugar free.

Good luck!! I know any one of us can overcome this obstacle. Look toward your future too... just think that yes, this time is for healing... however the side effect is losing super fast. Now that's never a bad thing.... LOL ;o)

Hi Shelby! My name is Vicki and I got sleeved Nov4th. Sooooooooo it is liquids for me also, down 10 lbs. Last night my daughter made cabbage and noodles for herself and my hubby. Well as I sit here on the computer I dedcided to have some(no one is home right now) or they would kill me. Anyway, I just had VERY little and I chewed chewed chewed. So far I am ok. I am not one to step out of the box persay but I just needed to have them. So I will let you know how it works out. I would NEVER tell anyone go ahead try it. We are ALL our own person and need to do what is right for ourselves. Best of luck to you hang in there, you can do it!

Just keep in mind going off the post op diet eating plan is and can be quite dangerous. You are trying to protect your staple line and do your best to prevent leaks. Leaks are no joke and you are risking your LIFE by going against the plan.

The VERY best thing for you is to follow your Surgeons guidelines.

I had my sleeve done on October 25th and had horrible cravings for starches.. My weakness! I bought cream of potato Soup and egg flower Soup. Both of those helped me immensely!

Good luck to you

I am getting there too, I was sleeved 11/2 and I am trying to just mix it up between my sweet and hearty beverages. I have berry Protein, beef broth, Tomato broth, mango-peach juice and a few hot chocolates.

I have food envy a little, when my husband eats, but in all honesty, the tomato broth alleviates this feeling.

Good luck, you'll get through it!

You can find it at the grocery store where the Asian food is. Its in a packet kinda like you find gravy. They have a few different flavors too. Its awesome

Please just call your nurse/surgeon or anyone who knows. You are only 4 days post op and it sounds very dangerous to try and eat anything. I am 3 days further along but I wouldn't dare to eat anything else.

You are throwing food into a "bag" that has just been patched with a few staples - envision it -- how much do you want to trust this right now?

I follow the same mindset as Diva and the above poster. A leak is just not worth wanting to have something to chew on. food particles, and bits/pieces can lodge in your OPEN staple line. Tissue has not had time to grow over the staple line, and you really should just follow your surgeon's guidelines. Believe me, I know liquids suck royally, but you know what sucks worse, a leak or other complication because you want variety. I had a leak by no fault of my own, and believe me over 20 days of nothing by mouth AT ALL, no food, no Water, no ice chips, ZILCH for over 20 days is NOT worth some variety. Throw in a home healthcare nurse, and pic line feeding me, believe me, leaks are miserable and emotionally and physically draining. Hang on for a few more days, and progress your diet as prescribed, it's there for a reason, and torturing you is not the reason.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
