:paranoid My name is Vicki. I just got my band on 06-01-06. The first few days I was so sore that I thought I was not going to make it. then it got better. The main problem I am having is the gas in my left shoulder. I literally wake up every hour with this at night. I went back to work this week, and I am so tired I am having trouble keeping up. My doc says to walk, walk, walk. This has not helped. I am on my feet all day, and I am still having trouble sleeping. I have taken not one, but two boxes of Gas-Ex to no avail. Can anyone help? I am scheduled for my first fill on June 26 (a little over a week from now). This leads me to my next question...I am concerned because I can eat almost anything I want to. Why is this? Nothing seems to bother me (yet). Only one time did what I ate bother me...about 3 days after surgery, I tried to eat something creamy. I had already ate some and it went down fine. I tried on this instance, and I guess I ate too fast or did not chew properly because I had such chest pain, I thought I was going to die! After about 30 minutes it eased up and went away. That scared me into eating slower, but as each day goes by, I find I dont have to chew as much, and I can eat more and more. This scares me and I have to watch myself. Will this get better after my first fill? Or have I done something wrong? I hate to be asking all of these questions, but I am a little nervous. I have read many of the posts here, and so many wonderful helpful answers that I thought I might ask you all. Thanks for listening...:nervous Vicki

Welcome to lapband Vicki. As far as the shoulder pain, mine finally went away after about four weeks. Sure hurts does'nt it. The only releif I got was a heating pad. As you being able to eat anything you need to learn now what to eat and how before you get your fill. I think I probably could have eaten anthing but I did'nt. You will have to learn to work with your band. I am about six weeks out and just had my first fill. I thought I was eating slow enough and small enough bites but I found out in a hurry that I was'nt. Thought I was filled to much but I just slowed down and everything is fine. Good luck to you.:)

SallyJo:

Thank you for responding to me. I noticed your Dr. was Feliz Spiegel. He did mine too. How do you like him?

Hi everyone. I'm waiting for a confirmation on my surgery date - tentatively scheduled for 3 Aug 06. I had the opportunity to attend a support group meeting before my initial consult with the surgeon as well as a fairly lengthy wait (maybe on purpose?) in the surgeon's waiting room. So I was able to ask lots of questions before seeing my surgeon. I have done lots of research and have watched many friends on this journey but I'm still anxious and nervous. I really enjoy this website and I'll visit again soon. Roxy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
