aLe_dulcis 0 Posted November 5, 2010 I had the VSG in October. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and I have eaten oatmeal and Soup the entire 2 weeks. I have some Jello, yougurt, but I get tired of them really quick. Im very picky with what I eat. Thats the problem. Im wondering when I would be able to eat eggs, Beans, mashed potatoes, etc. What can I start eating at 3 or 4 weeks post op?
MN Mary 0 Posted November 5, 2010 At my one week visit my doctor told me that I could start on baby food. Anything pureed. I asked if I could puree my own food with my food processor. He said that is even better. He doesn't believe in empyt calories in milk based Soups. He said I could go onto mushy and foods that I chewed really well the following week. He then said go slow and try different foods. I have been eating chili, fish, chicken and chewing it very well. I puree beef. I go for my one month post op on Monday. I want to know when I can eat popcorn.... and raw vegetables. Make sure you ask your doctor how he wants you to go forward on your diet. Mary I had the VSG in October. I just moved to full liquids and feel like there are so many options now. I had split pea soup, pudding, cream of wheat, pureed cottage cheese, testing the waters with a shake that has Peanut Butter, banana, skim milk, and unflavored whey, when i went to cream Soups, it offered so many varieties. I think eggs are 4 weeks with my doctor, but pureed. Hope that helps, take it slow you don't want to do anything that could make you intolerant of something you really like. I think you could do a bean soup by thinning it with skim milk, not positive. Do you have a dietitian? Mine has been incredibly helpful. I have called her a ton. Best of luck to you. You can do it! They should tell you exactly what you should be eating and when. You don't want to follow random advice from people (not that the guidance here is bad at all) because every doctor has developed their own unique post-op plan and if you don't adhere to it and there are complications you might be the one blamed. For example I only had to do clears for two days, including day of surgery, while I've seen others here have to be on clears for a week plus. Get the official word from your doc, you'll feel more comfortable that way.
