I am 65 and had my surgery April 16, am doing very well. Only issue, and it is a big one for me, is that I am hungry mid-afternoon and it lasts until dinner even though I drink. I am told this goes away but when?

Hello everyone. I am 63 and decided I didn't want to be fat anymore. I weighted 337 and I could not get into patio chairs to eat outside at restaurants. I could not sit in deck chairs on cruises for fear of breaking them. I went to a neighborhood bbq and they stopped me from sitting down and brought out another chair so I would not break it.

I was sleeved last week with some issues. I was told my heart rate went up to 165 and they shocked my heart twice to bring it down. They were going to stop the surgery but decided to continue. Where am I now, tomorrow is one week out of surgery. I feel good. Not much pain at all and I have lost 20 pounds. Hoping to be never found again. I would recommend this surgery if you are tried of being overweight. I can't wait to see my next weight in.

I'm 65 this year. OMG-medicare, can't believe it!

Hang in there hayneseleae. Sorry you had a blip during surgery but looks like it all worked out. So happy they continued the surgery. I think you'll be happy about it.

I had serious reflux right after WLS sleeve jan 2015. It was hard to eat anything but I did keep the liquid Protein and Water in. Had a lot of vomiting. Still do vomit if I eat too fast or too much and too much is just a tablespoon or two too much. Also get the slims if I eat the wrong thing. I had to learn to stop eating before I was full.......now tell that to a life-long food addict.

It also took me a while before I could eat solid food. I was WAY behind in everything. I had to do the liquid and mushy diet much longer than any one. I kept trying something and it just didn't stay down. I Didn't eat salads till about 6 months. Just recently have been able to eat an apple peel. My thoughts to you, everyone is different. Take it easy and you'll be fine. It is scary at first. It was months before I was very relaxed with the WLS.

Now all is well I no looking back. It was all worth it.

Best to you!

Hi my friends ,

I will be 64 in February. I'm being sleeved on Monday January 11th. It's been tough on the pre op diet . But I know the hard work it will be worth it. I will have my gall bladder removed in the same surgery. I'm praying for all to go well.

Congratulations on your surgery date. Yea, the pre-op is hard but in just a few days you will wonder where all that ravishing hunger went to......cuz it will be gone and you will have to make yourself remember to eat something. Keep sipping that water!

Normal to be a little hesitant, it's a major surgery but you'll do fine.

Best to you and keep us old geezers updated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
