Over 60 and having the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Glad to hear that the 60 years young group, is having success. My surgery date is this Wednesday. I have all my post-op shakes and drinks ready to go. To keep busy during this liquid pre-op, I just packed up all my 2X and 18s-20s and put them in a bag for Goodwill. I've already lost 19 pounds, so more or less 1X. I'll need to gigantic bags when I pack up the 1x. Gives me something to do, I'm starving right now. Ready to go drink my dinner.

Just checking in. It's been 10 months and I'm down 102. 60 more to go. I've been kind of static for a few weeks. I have gotten lazy about tracking. Starting tomorrow I'm back to that. I have to keep track so bad behaviors don't become bad habits again. I'm 65 and really happy that I had the gastric sleeve 11/18/15. post-258729-14744493461817_thumb.jpg

I'll be 68 in a couple of weeks and sleeved 4 months and delighted to say that I'm 20kg (about 44 pounds) lighter. Hand on heart I can't say it's been an easy ride, the first month was truly awful, but the change in my wellbeing is fantastic. I actually enjoy walking and for once I'm not looking forward to the long Australian summer with my usual dread. It's been a long and unusually cold winter here and I'm well and truly over it. I don't know about anyone else at this stage but I still have good and bad days and have to be careful of food choices or I find myself throwing up. My new stomach throws a curved ball from time to time by rejecting something that I've been fine with previously. Still no regrets, I'm halfway to my goal according to my surgeon who has set a kg a week as my target. He tells me I might even get a smile from him at my next appointment in December if I stay on target (he's a very dour Scotsman). That's a thrill I can barely wait to experience lol.

I'm so glad I found this group. Im 68 and having a sleeve on

Welcome Judy, you're never too old is my thinking and I have absolutely no regrets. Even though I'm beginning to look like a deflated balloon with no clothes on I really don't care. As long as I start to look good IN them is enough for me. I like that I don't have to worry about squeezing through gaps or hope that 100kg weight limit chair will hold me and not crumple into a heap. The downside is that my formerly well cushioned backside gets very uncomfortable in a solid chair and I'm beginning to disappear behind the steering wheel of my car. So go for it lovely lady and let us know how you are.

Hi ginnylee. I am new to group. 61 years old. Almost finished completing pre-op tests. No date yet. I have many reservations about doing the surgery. These are related to potential side effects. Nausea, diarrhea, staple issues, not being able to follow the diet. I am taking it one step at a time and am optimistic that things will work out.

I am SO happy to find this page! I started the process in July when I was 69 years old. I have since turned 70. I agree with Rosey.....the only fear I have is continuing to live as a fat lady. I don't have a date yet. Finished with all the tests including sleep study, etc. What point are you at?

I agree! I don't want to have to think about skin removal because it freaks me out. Everyone thinks sharpei dogs are so cute, so are we, baggy skin and all. I feel great and friends are amazed at my new size when they see me. I just had a month stall after losing 100 pounds and in the last 2 weeks have lost 10 pounds. 110 pounds down in 11 months. 54 more to go. I'm ecstatic. If your health is okay there are great doctors willing to do this surgery on your age group.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
