Hi,

I think it depends on your insurance and program. I went to the initial seminar and appointments in August. I had blood work done. I had already had a sleep study done earlier this year and was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. My insurance requires 3 visits with a dietician within 90 days. I also had an appt with a psychiatrist. I am having surgery next month. Good luck!

Did you have an endoscope done? Are you going on a pre-surgery diet?

Nobody has ever mentioned the endoscope to me . . . I have a call in to my surgeon's office. I'm not sure if everybody gets that or maybe it depends on the surgeon? I do have a pre-op diet....it is a low-fat, HIGH-Protein diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I have posts from others that they were on liquids for 1 - 2 weeks prior to surgery.

My insurance/DR required 5 EAP sessions, Phych eval, nut apt, Upper GI, blood work, h. pylori test, two tobaco tests, and the seminar. The dr some times also requires an apt with the cardiologist and the pulminologist fr the heavier patients. I went to my seminar in july and had surgery Oct 21st I could have gone sooner but I had to come up withthe rest of them money.

I went to the seminar in July, had my initial consult Aug th. They did blood work and H. Pylori then. The next week I went to the psych eval and then when I passed that it was all submitted to my insurance. About 3 weeks later I was approved. I then went for a sleep study, an ultra sound and Nutritional counseling one time and my insurance has a lady call me every couple of weeks who goes over diet changes and how things are going. I also had to do a support group meeting ran by the doctors office one time.

I am now scheduled for Nov rd and they said part of my pre op will be an upper and lower GI.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
