As of 2:30pm yesterday, I am on the road to a healthier me! Dr. Salimath said that the sleeve would work good for me (yippee) and that with a BMI of 42...and a small handful (haha) of co morbidities...i shouldnt have a problem with my insurance being on board! woohoo...i know i have a long road ahead of me, but it is one that I have waited a long time for, and i am ready. i started my new 'no soda, sweets, and all water' lifestyle today. lol oh boy! so...now i am just waiting for my appt with the nutritionist, psychologist, and behavioral therapist. Gonna get my labs done this weekend, and knock out as much as i can as soon as i can. any suggestions on the long prep to this new life?

Sounds like you are on the track to your new life already. I know in the months prior to my surgery, I was on this board constantly. I googled VSG constantly and looked for ideas on pre-op and post-op foods. Your surgeon, nutritionist and the rest of the team will have lots of great advice for you. Don't be afraid to ask quetions - often the nut is going to give you guidelines based on their experiences with other patients. If it's not working for you, ask for alternatives. Find what works for YOU!

Congratulations on completing your first steps. Keep us updated on how things go with your appointments & let us know when we can Celebrate your surgery day!

I am so happy for you. The approval process can seem to take forever, but it is so worth it when you get your date!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
