Recommended Posts

Are you sure caltrate is calcium citrate not Calcium carbonate? I thought someone had said it's calcium carbonate.

I was going to say.. I never heard of chewable citrate. I believe that's what you use to make you go potty :(

I don't have any experience with it. Sorry, hopefully someone will be able to help you soon!

It is a citrate that you need to take ( according to my NUT) I get the generic from Walmart. They are horse pills but I put two in 3 oz cold Water and desolve. Then I add 3 oz of G2 or Crystal lite to hide the taste. Then I tell myself to think of it as medicine and just do it, lol. I also count it as 6oz towards my water intake for that day. I take two in the morning and two in the evening (12 oz total) NUT said if any grainy stuff is at the bottom of the cup, don't drink it, just throw it away.

I am going to have to try that. I frist tried getting down the horse pills. No go. Then I cut it into thirds. It made me soo nauseas I thought I was gonna die. I had to go home from work cus I kept throwing up. I cna't think of any other way to get it down, so I will try your method. Cross your fingers..

I went to Vitamin Cottage and bought chewable calcium citrate. Made by Rainbow Light, chocolate chewable, 3 wafers = 1000mg, I spread it out and eat one 3 x day. It was kinda pricey, but I do not want to cut up horse sized pills nor do the dissolving thing. BTW, Vitamin Cottage had several different brands of calicum citrate regular and chewable/dissolvable. (for those of you counting carbs, check the labels on chewables as some have sugars to make it palatable)

Great post 6...

I have found that calcium citrate (in chewable form) is much harder to find on the store shelves. Most of the "chewable" forms of Calcium are the carbonate. I am thinking of ordering from Bariatric Advantage online. I ordered a sample pack and most of the chewable calcium flavors were okay tasting.

However, my surgeon doesn't want us on calcium until we are 6 weeks out. So I guess I have time (will be 2 weeks out tomorrow) but need to get thinking on this. :) My surgeon also said don't worry about Vitamins the first couple of weeks, your body has enough stores to get you through. Anyone else get that advice?

I was told to make sure I stay on top of the vits because when your deficient then it is harder to come back. Things that make you go hmmm? lol

I am currently using a powder calcium citrate + d3 and I have to agree with those who don't really care for it. It is hard for me to get down. However, I just found a product at costco (I think they have it at Sam's too).

It isn't a chewable, but a liquid. It is called Reviva High Absorption calcium citrate liquid and is blueberry flavor (they also have a REALLY good liquid Multivitamin that is tropical flavored). Check out http://www.revivanutrition.com or head to your local costco, Sam's or other discount club.

I hope this helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
