Surgery Thursday!!! EEKK!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is this Thursday and I am alternating between thinking about canceling it and thinking about how great it will be to be getting this weight off!!

I feel badly because I haven't lost weight the past two weeks. My doctor didn't put me on a diet but he said that if I lost weight it will be easier because my liver will be smaller... I put myself on a liquid diet for today and tomorrow.... not sure if it will do anything though...

I have been feeling bad thinking if I couldn't do the diet for the past two weeks, why am I being banded???!!!???

Thanks!!!

You're getting banded to live a long, healthy life. Dieting after getting the band will be SO much easier. You will still have to work at it, but it'll be attainable, rewarding work. Your fears are normal but just do what you can to press on through it and come out on the other side. You're going to do great!

Ditto on that. I can't believe I can actually survive on such few calories. I'm on the post op 2 week liquid phase right now. I get to start mushies next week. There is something magical about not being hungry after surgery. They say the first 6 months is the easiest. Don't fear. We all had the same feeling prior to going in. The surgery, from my side, was a breeze. Now its just a little swollen stomach with a "ball" feeling. I feel great otherwise. Good luck!

I have my surgery on July 12 th and I'm nervous too!! I have thought about cancelling...does anyone know how bad the scars are?Are you full on the liquids? I'm kinda worried about that as well? Liquids don't fill me up now. Is anyone banded an emotional eater? Does it work for emotional eaters? Has anyone attended Overeaters Annonymous? Has anyone not lost weight or found life difficult with the band? Sorry about all the questions...I have alot!

My incisions are really small, all about my waist line. Once they heal I think they will be minorly visable. Yes, I am full on liquids. I'm 7 days post op and my stomach is still swollen. I have no hunger so I sip throughout the day. Yes, I'm an emotional eater. I haven't attended OA. I am just praying that with the restriction I will eat the recommended 3 small meals a day and H20 in between.

I am 11 days post op, back to work, and doing great. I am still on full liquids and I get a little hungry.....or so I think. When I get hungry I start to panic. I am afraid I will eat something. But.....all I do is drink a full liquid and the hunger goes away. Amazing, huh? I truly think the hunger is mostly in our heads, before AND after surgery.

You will not be sorry you had the surgery. You will be amazed and happy. The scars are small, and on a younger person I think they will fade to nothing.

I have a little restriction already in that I feel shoulder pain when I finish a big glass of whatever. I am anxious to start soft food to see how it feels. I am also looking forward to my first fill. It is scheduled for July 19.

Good luck with your journey!!

Don't you dare even consider cancelling this surgery! You owe yourself a healthy life free of weight issues and low self-esteem. I am 5 days post op and I feel terrific and I know that I made the best possible decision of my life. I have no pain and I have lost 26 lbs since I started my liquid diet 2 weeks ago. We are here to support you and I will be rooting for you. Do it, you'll be so glad you did!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
