I feel like I have to eat everything right now

Recommended Posts

My surgery is not until Jan 6th and I feel like I have to eat everything I want "now"- because I won't have lots of those things again for a long time.

I have 62 days before surgery and surely don't want to gain any more weight - that will just put me further back from my goal. Did anyone else experience this? I don't start my pre-op diet until after Christmas but fell like I should really begin now. I did not qualify for insurance because my BMI was to low and not enough co-morbidities, so I am headed to Mexico. At this rate of eating I would hit the magic 40 BMI - yesterday I was at 39.4!! I think I have gained 10 pounds in the last month. I am going in the wrong direction, I feel like I have given up on losing until I have my new sleeve tool. I know that is the WRONG attitude.

Did anyone else have their surgery scheduled so far in advance? Did you diet up to the big day or just start with the required pre-op? WIth the holidays coming I know it will be hard enough to just maintain my weight let alone lose weight.... help.

It's not uncommon to have several food funerals before your surgery. Maybe try making some new good habits in preparation for your surgery will help? Try eating your Protein first, stop drinking with your meals, and sit your eating utensil in between bites, and start listening to your body. Eat your favorites, but try to cut your portions. When you go out to eat, get a "to go" box as soon as your food arrives, put a portion of the food in the box, and take it home for later. With these changes, you can still eat your favorites, but you can start working on the mental aspect of this surgery, and change some habits for the better before your big day.

Best wishes ! ! !

Thanks Tiff you are always so positive and give great "straight on" and honest advise. I love reading your posts and replys! You have given me some great advise and I will begin preparing for my future today.

I just made a Protein shake before I made this reply!

Thanks for your honesty and support - it is greatly appreciated!

I totally agree with Tiff. Her recommendations are excellent.

As far as being scheduled so far out, I had a 6 month insurance-imposed wait time, and while I did enjoy "eating" during that time, it was a little hard to have a "food funeral" everytime I ate something. So basically I didn't lose any weight, but I didn't gain a single pound (oops, except for I did gain 2lbs when we went to Hawaii in Aug. on a family vacation, the macadamia nuts where everywhere, I lost it when we got home.) :)

I think just my mind-frame was that I was in "transistion" to a new life and I really did NOT want to gain any weight. But then again I wasn't faced with Thanksgiving or Christmas. So I feel for you. Hang in there!!! It is not the last time you will eat a particular food, just the last time you will eat it in THAT quantity.

I was like that during my waiting period, to start my classes. I can't count how many "This could be my last meal" I had.

I have my surgery scheduled for a month from now and am definitely living it up right now. I keep reminding myself "ok, you wont be able to eat like this in a month (or for the rest of your life) so live it up while you can!"

I'm holding funerals (I love that term "food funeral" too!) for beer and soda. I'm definitely going to miss beer!

Kimmes YES I was feeling the same way! LAST SUPPER is what my doctor called it! I haven't been Sleeved yet but one day I was reading about a man that was crying because he couldn't eat his favorite food. It HIT me at that moment I have LET FOOD control me my whole life and it HAS TO STOP! Tiff commented on my forum when I wrote the same thing and she gives GREAT advice!!! Which FOOD FUNERAL is GREAT TIFF!!! I laughed so hard but it is a TRUE feeling. You WILL be able to eat your favorite foods one day just NOT AS MUCH! That is what has stopped me from EATING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!! If you think about it a bite is really all you need to ENJOY the flavor!!! Keep reading on this website because it is the BEST place to be and SO HELPFUL in getting you ready for surgery! I'm HOPING for a December Sleeve...I'm doing the weight management for my insurance right now! GOOD LUCK!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
