I had Dr. Gachassin. While he is a very accomplished and capable doctor, he does come off with quite a bit of arrogance. He is friendly and nice but I don't feel like he listens when I ask questions. He just uses generic answers. It's kind of like, "you're doing fine, go about your business". His PA is very attentive and she makes me feel important and she tries to answer all questions and seems sincere. The staff is super and very friendly and helpful.

Dr. Gachassin rules the hospital. If you have any complaints, he will shake them up immediately. When he talks, the staff listens!

I feel like there should be more frequent follow ups with the Bariatric Team than they schedule. However, you can call at any time and they will talk to you.

I was also cash pay. Watch out for the double billings. The doctor's office, the anesthesia group and now the hospital have sent me subsequent bills. Now, they were quickly taken care of after a phone call, but when I got the $2200 bill from the anesthesia group, I nearly fainted!

I was scheduled about 6 weeks from the first visit. It depends on his schedule and if there are any openings.

I would recommend Dr. G and the LGMC Bariatric Dept.

I didn't take pictures of the facility but I can tell you that it's small, VERY clean, & VERY efficient!! It is located in a strip mall but that didn't concern me one bit because that's how a lot of places are in Texas & in some places in Louisiana. The guesthouse was well decorated & VERY clean & everyone was great! The nurse made rounds & checked on us & gave us our meds & anything else we asked for. Awesome Experience & I went alone!!

Hi guys! I'm not from Louisiana, but I am a neighbor! (Mississippi)

I was wondering if anyone had any info on Dr. Thomas Borland in New Iberia? I've been looking into driving down to Mexico to get the surgery done (my husband and I are terrified of flying) but then I found that for only $1000 more, I could have it done only 4 hours away rather than 13 hours away. I see that he is the Chief of Surgery at the hospital, so that is very comforting too, but I also see that he does the surgery as outpatient and then has you stay in a local hotel so he can make "house calls" to you. Is that safe? I haven't read of any doctors not making you stay 2 days in a hospital, much less only a few hours. Anyway, thanks for info you can give me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
