Everyone stop losing weight! It just might save your life!

I just read this article (posted below)tonight and thought it is really interesting how a perception of something generally thought to be negative can change based on circumstances. I used to work for a lady that was very large (400#ish), who got what she thought to be a boil on the back of her thigh. It got bigger over the next week and she finally was taken in to the Dr who immediately admitted her to surgery. Turned out she had contracted that flesh eating staph bacteria. The Dr's later said that her fat saved her leg and probably her life! The bacteria was not able to eat as far and invade. A smaller person after a week would have at the very least lost their leg. So I am taking a moment tonight to thank my little fat cells for the protection they may have afforded me before I started this war against them. As I lose each one I will kiss it goodbye and think fondly of the protection they were trying to give me!:) And I ask you to check your perception tonight and see, Is your glass of fat half full or half empty?:) Ever been saved by your fat?

Bulky man barely injured as car rolls over him

Mon Jun 12, 12:23 PM ET

A 440 pound German man discovered that being overweight can be good for your health -- if you get run over by a car.

German police said the extra body mass prevented the 30-year-old man from suffering potentially fatal injuries when a Volkswagen Polo drove over him after he braked suddenly on his bicycle at a crossroads and fell off in front of the car.

"It certainly helped him in this case," said Sven-Marco Claus, a spokesman for police in the western town of Gifhorn on Monday. "Someone smaller would probably not have been so lucky."

The man dislocated his hip, which local doctors put back in place, but otherwise suffered only scratches and a bloody nose from the underside of the vehicle, police said.

Thats funny! I have one to add.

My favorite bumper sticker I have ever seen is:

Fat people are harder to kidnap.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
