November 8th Date....Starting to get nervous

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

After fighting for 2 years to get sleeved I'm 6 days away from my surgery date and now I'm nervous. I watched nightline Monday, Oct. 25th which did not calm me down at all, first they made me angry with the statement "no diet or excercise, they've turned to surgery" I've not worked this hard in my life training my mind about portions, going to the gym three times a week and after surgery your "diet" changes even more leading to your weight loss. I hate news reports that make it seem that obese people are so lazy they had to create a RADICAL procedure in order for us to loss weight. Anyway after yelling at the television, I watched the actual surgery this did not help my nervousness and it freaked my husband out a little as well. To watch someone having their stomach removed really drove home how permanant this procedure is and how important it is for me focus after my surgery.

I thought I was on a emotional roller coaster fighting to have surgery, now I see that was nothing compared to all the feelings you have the closer it gets to your surgery. This is why I'm really happy that I've found this forum, I get the encouragement that I need and the calm knowing others have felt the same as I have. Thanks again for letting me vent, while typing this post I could feel my nervousness slip away.

Hey Yolanda, I'm right there with you. I go Thursday. Didn't think I'd be nervous at all, but.........reading the posts here really helps to know it'll be a small time of pain and discomfort (comparatively speaking) as a trade-off for living the rest of your life as you really want to be. Keep the faith and keep your eyes on the goal!

Dennis

Hang in there! I think everyone is naturally nervous, this is a huge life change, and most people don't do well with change. Surgery is a big deal too. Going "under" is scary and it is hard to explain to people why we would 'elect' to do this to ourselves. Even 2 days before surgery, my 9 year old daughter said "so, you aren't sick, but yet you are having surgery?" exactly sweetie.

Take some time to reflect on how far you have come, the changes you have already made, and don't let a TV report jade what YOU know to be true, that this is a ton of work, made harder by the fact that we are ASKING for help. We don't get a magic wand, we don't get 100lbs cut off during the surgery, we don't get to wake up "skinny"...you know all that, even if other people don't.

Try to go in with the attitude of greatfulness. Be grateful that you are being given an opportunity to make permanent changes, that will affect your health and life. I too had a hard time with the "removal" of 85% of my tummy, but thankfully I had gall bladder surgery 11 years ago and realized how super-incredible our bodies are. How we can keep living and functioning even with organs missing or portions gone. Yes, I will never have a "normal" stomach again, but I don't want to go back my way of "normal" eating either!

I think the days leading up to surgery are the hardest (well and the couple right after too, lol). But be confident that you have done all your research and that you are doing this to improve your life!

Thank you for the kind words, my 10 yr. old is still trying to figure this out she understood my hysterectomy because I was always in pain. While preparing for surgery I'm the healthiest now then I've ever been 10lbs lost, working out 3x a wk, with that said my poor daughter is even more confused....lol

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
