I am getting "fuzzy" teeth all the time. It is annoying. I am sure that it is because of the Protein Shakes, but eeeeew!

It will go away for a little bit (if I chew gum, more so if I brush) but it keeps coming back and it is driving me crazy!

Anyone else?

YES! I just had to brush twice about an hour ago!!! Once with toothpaste, and once with baking soda! To get some abrasion on there~! Guess i should go see the dentist for a cleaning soon, anyway, but yeah, too much dairy and pseudo-dairy at this stage!

Me too! Disgusting. A friend who is a dental hygienist recommended either baking soda or hydrogen peroxide (be careful not to swallow any). Toothpaste is just not enough.

It could also be the ketosis -- burning the fat -- my mouth is perpetually yucky and my husband will often say it smells (even though I brush, I promise!) -- so I've taken to sucking on sugar-free mints -- just to take away the yuckiness factor in my mouth. ugh!

Ketosis causes the fuzzy mouth. I invested in a good tongue scraper because brushing wasn't enough. Also, they didn't have these when I was in ketosis, but those Whisps that are little brushes with a minty thing that you can brush without Water are AMAZING. . . I use them all the time, and they're fairly inexpensive with a 4 pack costing about a buck or buck and a half. Totally worth it, and I can imagine those little bristles would really help get the fuzz off of your teeth.

Looking at your signature I can see that you were sleeved on the 22nd of Oct, so I am guessing you are not eating too much in the way of solid foods yet. The fuzzy teeth and yucky tongue will go away once your diet progresses. One of the things that the different textures of solid food does is help clean off your teeth and tongue. I had this too at the beginning, but hang in there, it will improve. Just keep brushing and drinking Water. If you think you can chew gum and not worry about swallowing it, that will help too. I did that alot at first and found it to be pretty helpful.

At first I thought it was just me and maybe I wasn't brushing enough or something. I finally realized it had to have something to do with my new diet. Drives me crazy- my teeth are constantly feeling like I need to brush them. I've never heard of Whisps but will defintely be checking them out. Thanks a bunch for the post.

I definitely had this the first month or so, especially when I was in liquid diet stage/pureed stage and I was consuming Protein Shakes like premier and basically nothing else except Water. My bad breath issue has DEFINITELY become less of a thing. Not sure if it's just my body getting used to things or that I am eating real foods, but it was temporary for me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
