What to expect 3 weeks post op?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could tell me how you felt 3 weeks post op?

What activities where you able to do?

I will have surgery on 6Dec and I have 6 family members joining our family of 5 for Christmas and staying for 10 days.

Not too worried about entertaining them, just wondering what I can expect.

PS I have NEVER had surgery before.

Thank you for your help

I had never had surgery before this either. I had mine on October 4th and I still feel like I'm recovering. I get tired really easy, still have a bit of internal pain if I push it too hard, I definitely still have to take things slower then I would like. But with each day I can see improvement and my activity level has slowly been going up.

I'm only 11 days post-op today, but I can tell you my pain was never very bad, I was off all pain pills by 3 days post-op. My mom came and stayed with us for a week, which was amazingly helpful. She cooked for my family, cleaned, took my girls to school and picked them up, so that I could rest and my hubby could go to work. I was driving 5 days post-op, and pretty able to function normally ever since then.

Big things to watch for: fatigue & being around food, etc. Every day I continue to to feel better, but the fatigue is something I need to keep an eye on. For instance yesterday around 11am, I took a quick 20 minute nap because I was feeling very lethargic. It helped. And being around food is hard. My eyes SEE it all and my HEAD says YES, YOU ARE HUNGRY, but the reality is that I can't cook the way I used to (BLT, bites, licks and tastes while cooking) and even though food smells good, looks good, I just know that I cannot have it. It is a wierd feeling for sure. Learning to listen to REAL hunger vs. HEAD hunger. I think I would just explain to your family there might be meals that you just need to 'duck out' on so that you can just be away from it all. My surgeon has a very strict guideline for eating, but at the 3 week mark, you can have lots of soft foods, 90% protien and 10% complex carbs (fruit/veg) still 1-3 oz every 2 hours.

Hope that helps!

On my 3rd week post op, I mostly dealt with a certain amount of fatigue first of all... and 2nd, I was still trying to concentrate most of my time getting my fluids in.

Make sure to lookout for yourself first during that time. Likely it will seem you don't have time, I urge you to make sure that you do make time. It doesn't take much for us sleevers to get dehydrated and very tired right after surgery. You might want to write yourself out an itinerary and timeline so to be sure you're doing everything you should be doing. I know Christmas can be hectic enough.

Good luck!

:rolleyes::blink:

So three weeks out. That is me right now!

I feel great. I make sure to get my Protein and fluids in.

Six days after surgery we had our 4 grandchildren for a week. They went to school during the day however I planned meals before my surgery and my husband was a great deal of help to make sure I didn't over do it.

Today we went to the senior pool and started an aqua body toning class. We will do this 3 days a week. Because of the calorie intake Ido get tired out. I am one month short of 62. I have lost pre op 18 lbs and post op 16 total 34 lbs. I am very happy with my results.

If I could learn to slow down when I eat... This is very difficult for me.

You have to remember that we are all differnt. I would have a plan B for the 10 day visit. Make sure you have meals planned ahead of time and an understanding with your guests that you are recoving from major surgery. Do take care of "you"! Perhaps they could serve you..

3 weeks out I still felt tired as well. I wasn't in any pain though and I was mostly dealing with nausea. According to my surgeon, mine was probably worse than usual because I had a hernia repair at the same time of getting sleeved. Just do what you can and when you feel like you need to rest, do it. Good luck!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
