3 Weeks Post Op - Oct 7, 2010

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. This is a story for all of you that are thinking about having the VGS and for those that have already had it, I need help.

I started off thinking about the lap band and then decided that was not for me because of so many differnt horror stories. I then choose to take the VSG and left the full by pass an option that I would take if I did not loose the entire 100 pounds that I wanted.

Oct 7, 2010 I weighted in at the hospital, surgery morning, at 251.8 pounds with aBMI of 41. The first week I will tell you was crazy. I am burping up slim all the time and when I do it (about five teaspoons) is all that I can eat. I will start sliming (if you want to call it that) and If I do not spit it out, I will throw it up.

On the second day after surgery, I had heart burn and indigestion so bad, I was wondering why I did such a stupid thing. I got up and made a HUGE bowl of fruite pebbles with milk. I had two bites with milk and was full and within 15 minutes the indigestion was gone and has never returned.

I returned to work after two weeks and it was fine. I walked five times a day at least 10 minutes every time. My goal was to go further and further each time I walked. You must chew your food very good and eat slow. Do not make anything to drink when you sit down to eat, because that is a no no.

At week two I weighted in at 226, yes I had lost over 25 pounds. Then as I enter week three I am still at the same weight. I am walking one mile a day five days a week and I am eating about 500 calories per day. I am lucky if I get 24 oz of wanter and yes, I only pea once a day. I have had two bowel movements since surgery. THat took about two weeks before my first bowel movement.

I faithly take my liquid vitamins and calicum daily. I have not been doing Protein Drinks at all. My diet consist of what ever I want. I am not a big steak eater so that has not been an issue. I chew my food very well. DO NOT EAT RICE!!!!!

I need help from you veterans, why am I not loosing. I think because i have not been doing my Protein Shakes? I am starting tonight before I go to bed! I am also starting to do my work outs on Monday.

I am open to any suggestions. Please ask any questions, I will be more than happy to answer.

Whew, I'm glad you wrote this. I know there have been several post on the dreaded 3 week stall so I didn't want to make another but I had the urge. I am just like you excpet I had a week of clears then a week of full liquids and now I'm on mushies. My surgery was on the 8th of October and I lost 20lbs in the first two weeks. I've been the same weight, actually gaining a lb, for the last week. I know I'm not getting enough fluids for one. I think my body is holding on to ALL the Water I drink because I'm not drinking enough. So I think what we are going through is normal but I'll let some of the vets reassure us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
