oreilly76 0 Posted June 12, 2006 I have my surgery this Thursday with Dr. Bauman, I am begining to be a wreck about it!! Can you please walk me through everything you remember about that day? His standing orders that he gave me said that the foley catheter is removed in the recovery room. When I asked about the foley he acted shocked like why would I ask about one. He said I won't get one... Just wondering what you remember about the whole ordeal. Like the meds he gives you to empty your stomach? Did you have to go to the bathroom with diaherra before surgery? I am also concerned because I had gained weight at the 2 week pre op appt and he said I should be losing weight now. I know I never... even though every morsel of food that goes in my mouth I fight about and feel bad about... but another part of my brain is like 'but this is the last few days....' HELP!!!! THANKS!!!
bondgirl 0 Posted June 13, 2006 Congrats on your surgery! You are going to do fine. Just follow everything he tells you to do. I didnt get any diareah after taking that pill. I was banded almost a year ago by him and dont remember having a foley? If I got one it was out before I was awake. When I went back anethesiologist came in and put in the IV and then they put on these leg things that massaged your legs so you wont get blood clots. And they keep them on even after your surgery until you get up and start moving around. Other then that everything went smooth sailing. I even stayed overnight but not everyone needs too. That stuff the knocked me out with really knocked me out for a good day! LOL Good luck to you on your surgery. I will be thinking of you. Angie
Denika 2 Posted June 13, 2006 Congratulations! I just wanted to let you know that I didn't have a foley. If I remember right, the packet of information he gave me had both gastric bypass and lap-band instructions and information on it, and that made it easy to look at the wrong section sometimes. Could that be what happened? I also did not have any diarrhea with the medicine. I remember just feeling like I had a little indigestion when I woke up, but no real pain. After I came home I even e-mailed them to make sure it was O.K. to feel so "normal." I know it's hard, but please try not to get really uptight. Everything will be fine! Please let us know how you are doing when you can! Denika
oreilly76 0 Posted June 13, 2006 Thanks so much for the replies! I would love more info on how you felt and what it was like the first few days afterwards!
Dragonwillow 0 Posted June 13, 2006 You will be fine. I stayed overnight myself, but didn't need to. I called friends not too long after surgery and most were shocked at how "normal" I sounded. When hubby came to pick me up the next morning I was cleaning up the room and organizing...lol The first few days I was a bit tender...but didn't really need any heavy pain meds. I recomend walking around as much as you can. I got up every hour or so and did laps through the house. Some people feel more comfortable sleeping semi upright for a few nights. I have a waterbed, so I spent a couple of nights on the couch. But then I took naps in the bed during the day...so not sure it was neccesary. I was ready to go back to the gym at about a week out...but hubby thought it was too soon. But then at the two week appointment Dr. Bauman was like, why haven't you been back to the gym yet. LOL I also don't remember a foley. Probally the hardest thing right after surgery for me was going to the rest room. I tend to go quite often and ya have to call the nurse in to unhook you, and take the "massaging" boots off. Then you have to call them back to hook ya back up. I reccomend walking as much as you feel up to it even at the hospital. I did alot of walking there, and my gas pain wasn't bad at all. Good luck, you will do fine!
