A year ago I thought I wanted the lap band and after research I chose the VSG. My surgery was this past Thursday and everything went great. The only pain I felt was from the gas they pump u w. The Dr said that it is painful and can take 2 weeks to go away. I am day 2 home from the hospital and I have gone from feeling great to weak, can not pass gas, struggling with liquid intake and now can not go #2, my lower right back hurts bad and every joint/muscle in my body aches and I am freezing all the time. I spoke to my surgeon and he said this is all normal and will pass soon. I do and take every vit and pill as instructed and I walk throughout the day. I have already lost 8 pounds since my surgery and total 22 pounds. I know there is a light at the end of my tunnel but I wud luv to hear from others and how they got thru this.

I read this board every waking hour ... Seriously, that first week is THE WORST! The first month or so is hard & you will probably experience every emotion known to humankind.

But, you will make it through and you will be so glad you pushed through this & succeeded at losing weight and keeping it off for the first time in your life. You are going to look great and be HEALTHY!

The back pain does get better. I'm not sure what it's from. I seriously think they lay you funny on the table or something. Just walk walk walk and I had someone massage my bag with a heating pad.

Try to walk around as much as you can. That will get the gas moving out.

Take Miralax if you need to. It's not gritty and it's pretty much tasteless.

Don't worry focus on Protein as much as you focus on getting some kind of liquids down.

Look at before and after pictures when you feel down to see how great you're going to look soon!

Things get better every day!

I remember that part - I was very weak the first week. Not much pain, but discomfort. Walking around helped. I think it releases endorphines or something. It does get better very quickly, and once you start losing weight, it's such a rush. Moving around becomes easier by the week, and it's great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
