I have a question! I have a 4cc band, my first fill was 2.8cc and my second was 1.2...if the saline disipates (sp?) at .1cc per month...ish that puts me at 3.8cc. If part of the bands restriction is lost when we lose fat around the stomach area then my question is: Will I eventually not be able to get restriction at all?

Yes, I am a worrier...yes, I am medicated for that. haha

Thanks for the help, Tammy

So Dr. C I have a question for you.

I had my first fill of 2cc at 3 months on March 12. When I went for my second fill at 6 months on June 6 she only pulled out .5cc. She put in .5cc

What happened to the 2cc?

Does that mean I only have 1cc in there?

I had tons of restriction right off the bat even without a fill. Now I can almost eat anything.... I am a bit confused.

Should I get another fill?

Thanks for what ever light you can shed on this.

I see that a lot where I don't get out as much as I put in, especially early on in the fill process. I think what happens is that some of the Fluid stays in the tubing and you never get back out everything you put in. I would say the basic premise is: if you don't feel full and you aren't losing weight, you need a fill!

Good luck,

Dr. C

Oddly enough, I've never experienced any evaporation with my fills. Every time I go back for a fill, the exact amount was in there from the prior time.

If you had 2.8cc + 1.2cc in a 4cc band, that would mean you have 4cc's total, which is very unusual. Most people would not be able to swallow at that fill.

The answer to your question is that, if you go forever without a fill, yes you will eventually be unrestricted because of the slight continual leak of Fluid.

Hope that answers your questions!

Wow, this is so cool that you are here. I don't like talking to my band doctor b/c he looks at me like I'm a freak (okay so I am, but thats not the point).

When I spoke to him about patients (me) being tighter in the morning than at night, he said it was a mental problem, not physical and that I should get help. WTF. Wish more doctors were sincere like you.

Thanks for being her for us.

Oh I like your picture, your very handsome :)

Dr. C,

First of all welcome to the group!!

Here is my question... I have an allergy to Latex (diagnosed by positive allergy testing) I was banded on 4-13-06 and for the past 2 weeks have been getting hives all over for no reason.. The only thing new is my band. It is an Inamed band which I understand is silicone.. but what about the port. The part the needle goes into?? Is that latex free?? Could the band be the source of my hives???

Glad you're here! Hey I have a question for you. I have stretched my band, and when I spoke to the fill doc about it she said it was nothing to worry about and filled me anyway. Can you offer any insights as to why she might have done this?

Kathy, I found this on the Inamed web page...

Similarly, our INAMED Health BioEnterics® LAP-BAND® System contains no latex in the materials of construction or primary packaging of the product and accessories.

I can't answer about the hives, but that's what Inamed says...hope that helps.

That is correct, there is no latex at all in the Lap Band system. As far as stretching the actual band, that's impossible too. It's way to durable.

Hi doctor C. and welcome to LBT. My question is as follows: My doctor has done over 1600 Lap RNY, but has done only about 90+ Lap bands. Did I make the right decision going with this doctor? I am new to all this. I have not been banded yet.

A surgeon who has done 1600 lap RNY's and 90 bands has plenty of experience, and probably would be the equivalent of a surgeon who has done no lap RNY's and 200 bands.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
