Recommended Posts

Okay you all know about how my port was infected and I had to have it taken out and now I am packing the wound everyday. Well the gauze that I put over the wound after it is packed to cover it up / hide it. is GREEN it has a red ring around it and the middle is green. like a blue green. its actually a pretty color LOL Anyway my wound Dr. said green is good. but it just seems weird.... Heck I should post a picture. Anyway just seems weird.

Oh yeah, you should DEFINATELY post a picture. Do your "Warning, gross pic to follow, look at your own risk" disclaimer, but I LOVE seeing to goopy stuff. I know there are lots of other "gross" folks here, too. :) So, green is good, huh? Ewwwwww!

It is NOT normal to have green drainage and you need to see your MD ASAP. If the drainage has a real bad odor to it, it's even more prudent to see your MD quickly. Forget asking opinions on this board, when you're discussing a potentially serious infection, it's time to pick up the phone and call the MD.

I am seeing a Wound Specialist once a week... She knows about the green color and says it is a good sign. She called it Filiment or something I am not sure. It has no odor.

Trish: That actually looks rather angry. I remember Lisa's wound and how it was progressing in the healing process. It never looked that red around the edges and I don't remember her ever having green tinged drainage.

I know you said you were seeing a wound specialist and I assume they know what they are doing. Of all the wounds I have seen that looks really awful to me. But if you are comfortable with how it is looking then ignore me. LOL!!

How often are you packing the wound and are you irrigating it as well? Are you on any antibiotics?

By looking at this picture ((wow)) I was thinking that by now -8 weeks later- we should be seeing something better looking... ??? Im shocked actually.

You must've had one massive canyon under that little dime. Goodness.

So whats the ole band doc saying these days?

I have never posted my port infection pics on here for fear I would gross someone out...but I'm going to go ahead and e-mail them to Penny to see if she can resize them for me, and then I'll post them on this thread so you can compare Trish.

I never in 9 weeks of packing had bright green drainage, however I did have the yellowish green drainage if the would was sealed tightly with a plastic bandage during showers etc. The green bacteria tends to grow in environments that are deprived of oxygen. Once you let the air hit it, the drainage won't be green anymore....that was my experience with it anyway. Penny I'm sending you the pics, then I'll post. Thanks....Robyn

Okay....my husband is looking over my shoulder right now saying "OOOOH, I can't believe you are posting that nasty stuff!" Oh well...if it helps just one person....so here goes....

DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH. Trish as you can see....my drainage was almost always such of red blood. I'll take a pic tomorrow am and post it on how it looks now....just to give you some assurance that it WILL heal someday. I remember packing that stupid thing twice a day for 9 weeks thinking it would NEVER close. But it will. Hang in there Trish!

(Thanks to Penny for resizing and making this beautiful :biggrin1: Collage of pics)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
