Anyone try sashimi post op? If so what was your experience. Im not talking about sushi with rice - i was lap band and converted, so I got very used to no rice. I am 12 days post op and craving chopped spicy tuna...hoping my Dr will greenlight me to start soft/mushee Proteins at my appt on Wednesday. Im souped out, hate cold things and chocolate....

Thanks!

It was on my list of soft solids. Nice thing about the sleeve is that rice is not a no no food, and sushi with rice works wonderfully ! ! ! I don't eat raw fish at all, but know several that once they are released for solids enjoy sashimi. Most people don't get released for soft solids until at least 4 weeks post-op, closer to 6-8 weeks for the more conservative surgeons.

I think I had some about 3 weeks out. Went down very well. It's a great source of Protein and healthy fats! I enjoy sashimi and sushi several times a week.

I was going to pose this same question. I am a sushi fanatic but I wasn't sure how anyone else had dealt with it. I REEEEEALLY hope that it's not one of those things that I can't tolerate. I might cry. LOL

I am a big Sashimi fan. I eat it at least once a week. Before my surgery I could never get out of a sushi place spending less then $50.00. Now I can't eat $50 worth in a month!

Check out a specialty fish store or an Asian supermarket in your area - they will often carry frozen sashimi-grade fish. It's much more affordable than going out to eat and you can cut however many servings you want with a warm knife and put the rest back in the freezer.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
