Psychological Evaluation?

Recommended Posts

I had two. Not to freak ya out, but I "failed" the first one, but as a result of my experience and others, my Dr. THREW away her cards and is not recommending her anymore. This lady wanted some deep childhood investigation and we only had a hour! She wanted to know if my parents were married when I was born (40 years ago), and all this junk. Byotch. She had recommended that I wait till after my current job/money stressor, which then would defeat the purpose of the eval, since I won't have insurance once this stuff is over! I told her not to bother sending that in, I wasn't going to use her information..

So, I paid out of pocket for the In-House lady (who knows which side her bread is buttered). They will ask if you've had abuse, they will ask about food issues, it's Ok, ya wouldn't be there anyway if you didn't have any. They had me fill out a questionnaire that any reasonable person knows how to fill-out (are you sane enough to lie just a bit, LOL). I think it is reasonable to find out if you have the sense to understand what you are getting yourself into, the directives they are to give you, address any major fears you may have, are you so addicted to food are you gonna stuff marshmallows down your throat 24 hours after surgery..

The second lady was lovely. I could have chatted with her for hours, and of course, I got my clearance for surgery. It's not supposed to be a game of "gotcha"-you'll do fine!

Mine sent me a copy of the report that he submitted to the surgeon. It was kind of funny to me. He did mention how I came dressed for the evaluation (clean, well groomed, dressed appropriately), how my voice was steady and clear and can communicate my thoughts effectively. I thought it was funny that he mentioned "of average intelligence" but that makes more sense after hearing the IQ comments above. Of course we got into weight related stuff as well but I specifically asked him what they look for (after itwas over). He said that they want to make sure we can handle it, know what we're getting into and not doing it for the wrong reasons (spouse pressure, etc). He gave me the example of someone who was bi-polar wanting surgery while on a manic....they would hopefully catch that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
