Is that 'full' feeling the same post op as it was pre op?

Recommended Posts

I know you get full and can't take another bite... BUT does it feel the same as it did pre-op? Like after you eat 1 piece of pizza does it feel like you just ate a whole pizza. I guess I'm just worried that I won't get that stuffed feeling. Maybe (and hopefully!) it won't even be a big deal to me after surgery..

thanks! :)

For me, the full feeling is as if I had eaten my pre-surgery amount of food. We just got back from going out to lunch and I ate one mozzarella stick and couldn't eat another thing - I was so full. And I commented to my husband that it is so cool to get that full feeling after eating so little. It was no problem to sit and watch him eat an entire meal and dessert because I surely didn't want any of it. In fact sometimes it's hard to imagine that I could ever eat that amount. And tomorrow is 4 weeks for me :-)

If I take that one more bite (when I know I shouldnt) I feel like Thanksgiving x 10. Its a horrible, uncomfortable feeling. So the minute I feel satisfied, I stop.

It's the exact same feeling for me, only it comes a whole lot sooner! I agree with a previous poster, too, that you can get that over-stuffed feeling, very uncomfortable! So I've also developed an eye for how much will fill me up. Although some days I can eat a bite or two more, and some days a bite or two less. No idea what that's all about, and I'm not used to "listening" to my body. (I'm used to listening to my cravings, LOL!) So sometimes i over or underestimate a meal. It's a learning process.....

Pretty much yes for me. I'm 5 weeks out and finally doing well with food. But yes... I eat a small amount, and I'm full. If I eat too much, it's that awful feeling like when you overate before. I haven't tried pizza yet, but I will be SO happy if I can eat one slice and have the same feeling as I did pre-op half the pizza!!!

It depends. I feel like I have 3 stages of fullness. 1 - I feel satisfied but feel like I could eat another bite or two (learning to stop here - with some hits and misses). 2 - very full and sleepy. 3 - flat out uncomfortable (heart racing, feeling flushed, etc) - this only tends to happen if I eat overly fast. I still find myself at 2 fairly often. The tricky part is each of these stages is literally ONE BITE away from the other. It's a learning process.

Jordien: I tried pizza for the first time the other day and i was only able to eat 1/4 of a personal size pizza. (4 slices) The toppings tasted great. The crust was hard to digest. I hope its easier for you.

Hey thanks everyone! I guess i asked that since I'm about 3 weeks pre op and just thinking this is probably my last pizza I'll have. It's okay though I'm excited and so ready!!

It's the same in that you get to the point where you don't even want another bite, just in much less time with MUCH less food.

What is different for me is the full feeling itself. Before, you eat and eat and your stomach expands and expands further and further into your abdomen, putting pressure on everything and making you feel all bloated and thankful for those elastic-waisted pants. Now, it's much more centered and up high...the fullness tends to happen upwards, making you feel like you want to burp, or like there's pressure on the esophagus. It's weird at first, but you get used to it and eventually it's just as normal a feeling as it was before. :)

No you didn't eat your last piece of pizza, but you may have had your last WHOLE pizza. 4 or 5 weeks post op, I ate 2/3 of a slice, left the round, hard crust but ate all the toppings. It was awesome. And I was quite satisfied. You'll be able to have it again, but not just now, and not all that you ate before. But trust me, you won't want it. A little dab will do ya...

Before surgery I could eat 4 portions of something before beginning to get full and could then probably eat a little more. It took a tremendous amount of power eating to actually get overfull-sick. Now, there is no in between, I am either empty or full, period. When that full feeling happens now, there is no wiggle room for just one more bite. I eat two slices of turkey deli meat smeared with cream cheese for Breakfast every morning and halfway through the 2nd roll up I have to stop for about 5 minutes before I can finish the rest otherwise I would feel woozy, barfy, and disoriented. Also, when my body has had enough now, I sneeze and sniffle! Go figure.

As for hungry ... it's not so much hunger as it is emptiness. It's like, if you could physically sense when your car is running on empty, I can feel when my stomach tank is empty and needs to be filled. But it is no longer a mind/body/emotional connection.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
