I AM FREAKING OUT,

Recommended Posts

I AM FREAKING OUT, My surgery is scheduled for 10/26 and I was fine and very excited until I started to review the informed consent form and read about possible issues. I understand it is a standard form, but seriously I think my mind is playing tricks on me!

Try and stay calm...

Sure, anything can happen. They are just letting you know the risk...

Focus on the postive things- you are going to look great, feel great, buy smaller clothes, feel better about yourself, and lets not forget about all the medical issues too. (get off meds)

In my heart, all the risks that they mention will never out weigh my surgery.

I spent the last 50 years being over weight, I will spend these next 50 years being thin.

POSTIVE THOUGHTS and remember YOU CAN DO THIS!

I just signed my consent form yesterday. And I had to chuckle because in the very long list of possible complications, they just sort of tossed "death" in there. Like it wasn't first or last, just sprinkled in the middle, blah, blah, blah, death, blah, blah, blah. I know it wasn't funny but it sort of made me laugh.

I think with any surgery there is a very long exhastive list of possible complications, but you need to have faith in God (or your higher power or whatever you believe), yourself, your surgeon, etc. For example, I'm trusting that my faith in God will help me through this difficult time. I'm trusting that I did my research and my soul-search and that I am taking a huge leap to get myself back to a healthy life. I'm trusting my surgeon and the entire hospital staff to do what they have been trained to do thousands of times before me.

With all that said, if you aren't ready, then you aren't ready. Do you have a support system? A minister or pastor or counselor that you can reach out to? I truly feel sorry for anyone who has to go through this process alone. We need support and we need a shoulder to cry on sometimes or just an ear to listen. I would reach out if you are truly freaking out.

As for myself, of course I'm nervous, I think we all are. But I know this is the right thing for me, and I know this won't be a walk in the park to get to where I'm going, I know I will struggle along the way, but I'm READY.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
