Recommended Posts

Just wanted to hear everyones fav shakes. And any advice on PPI's. What worked for you and what didn't? I am very gassy and I have a lot of acid and I know I am going to need the BEST after surgery. I just want to be prepared; ) Sorry if that's too much info but hey I am just being honest.

I like Protonix because it comes in generic and it's very inexpensive. It's as good as nexium or anything else that is very expensive.

As for Protein drinks, everybody is different. I really like BSN Lean Dessert. I get the chocolate fudge pudding, the banana pudding, and the chocolate Coconut candy. Sometimes I mix the banana and the chocolate together.

If I were you I would get some samples first. There is a thread in the food section where you can order samples from a lot of places. A lot of people like Chike. the orange cream is good. I still get samples just to have some variety.

I just tryed Chike banana with 1% milk and a spoon of PB. First I dipped my finger in the envelope to taste the powder and it tasted pretty good. No strangeness. Then I mixed with milk in a blender. tasted good... no grit or strange tastes. Then I added ice and the PB. I don't think you would need the PB but it is more Protein and was ok. It was smooth and a little thick(not TOO thick) Creamy, and there was no separation at the top or bottom of the glass. I chose the banana sample because I thought I would like it the least... but I would drink it again. It was good and not too fake tasting. I have only tasted three kinds of protein powders so far, and this one was the best. You can get Chike samples for just the shipping here: http://www.chikenutrition.com/specials.html

I use Prilosec, and have had great success with it. I take it in the morning, wait 1 hour before eating(as directed), and then go about my day. None of the Protein Shakes worked for me, they all made me puke, or the taste was horrific. The only one that didn't make me throw up was Optimum whey extreme milk chocolate. It didn't have a texture, or a foul smell which was a problem with all the others. I would recommend getting samples, don't get any tubs of any of them because your tastes may change post-op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
