debinphoenix 0 Posted October 21, 2010 I hate to say it but I am SO glad you are all puking also. I am sick for no rhyme or reason sometimes. Last week it was 3 days in a row and then for 4 days I ate small amounts of M potatoes, chicken, beef etc and then yesterday back to puking. The only thing I can reliably keep down is toast and crackers. I sure hope it gets better. I'd like to see some people who are more than 4-8 weeks post op pipe in. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to try and eat all day for fear of being sick at work. The puking is so gross too with all of the slime. My dr didn't really want us to do Protein Shakes after we went on food but I may have to get back to them. Yesterday morning - 36 hours ago - I had 3 crackers with shredded chix salad. Fluids are a real challenge as well. I can get them down with no problem but within an hour of eating it will hasten my getting sick. I was trying to eat 5 very small amounts a day which left almost no time around that (30 minutes before and 60 minutes after) to get down my fluids. Nutritionally, if I am getting down a Multi-Vitamin, what else do I have to get down and keep down each day to stay healthy. I'm starting to worry that I am surgically created bulimic Really looking for advice here Please feel free to contact me off list at deb@mothergooseadoptions.com I've also started a blog at everythingelsefollows.blogspot.com
Tiffykins 673 Posted October 21, 2010 Are you getting nauseated as well? Or is it from what you eating? Have you been able to notice a trend in what is causing the vomiting? I don't know how far out you are, but I think I puked a total of maybe 3 times my entire time post-op(over 3-4 months) unless it was induced from one of the meds I was on during my recovery. If you're dehydrated, it will increase the nausea. Fluids are key, if you can't eat food, you might need to get checked for a stricture. Scary word, I know, but it can be an issue this early. Vomiting is not good for a healing sleeve, and the swelling/inflammation from vomiting isn't going to help you eat. I didn't ever have to wait the 30 minutes before eating to drink because that's typically a RNY/Band rule, not really a big deal since we have a pyloric valve intact and do not have a pouch. Luckily, we just have to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. It really sounds like you have a lot of swelling, and the vomiting makes it worse. I was instructed that if I did vomit, to go back to full liquids for a minimum of 1 day before trying mushies again. If you have to, go back to full liquids for several days, do it so you can get in something. If I were you, I'd personally be getting a contrast study done on my sleeve to make sure everything is okay internally.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 21, 2010 Tiffy is right. You need to call your doctor and explain what is going on.
