How has Lap Band changed your life?

Recommended Posts

HI,

I am wondering how Lap Band has changed your life? I want and need to lose weight but sometimes its just easier being over weight. I think Lap Band would improve my life--especially love life :).. I dont have high blood pressure or anything that I have to take meds for, I am just over weight and have no engery. I would love for people not to use as a weapon against me "your fat".. I have been in way to many relationships when things go bad that is there only thing they can say!!

I am 5'6

33 years old

234 lbs

want to lose 100 lbs..

It has assisted me in getting a life. I wasn't living to my fullest while being heavy.

It has been a great journey ...... I now go to pool everyday, the beach, fly with no problem sitting in the seat... bend over to tie my shoes... don't get tired walking through the parking lot to the mall. I go to the gym...

My life is great... me and my band! What a team!!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Gosh, what a loaded question!

Just like Donna said - I wasnt living life to the fullest when I was heavy.

I go to water-parks without being freaked out that "people are looking at me". I dont even notice that stuff anymore.

Or the "am I the biggst one here?" question we all wonder when we are MO.

Its given me a completely different mindset of when I was MO. I now have the confidence to look people in the eyes and begin a converstaion INSTEAD of waiting for people to speak to ME first.

Perfect example: About 2 weeks ago I saw a guy I graduated with... 18 years ago (wow!)

Im now about 10 pounds lighter then I was back then. He and I stood and talked for the longest about where weve been for 18 years - and I never felt embarrassed or uncomfortable conversing with him. And I could tell that he was equally interested and excited in visiting with me.

That was neat.

If I hadnt lost 70ish pounds with my band, I wouldnt have felt comfortable enough to talk to him. I wouldve either avoided him or just made small talk and moved on.

Anyway, there's a whole lot of great personality changes that happen when you lose a big amount of weight. Its actually every aspect of your life that changes... not just personality, but clothing styles change, sex life changes, the way other people interact with you.

Its awesome.

Honestly!

The lap band help me lose the weight (even though I am only 4 months postop), I've lost 30 lbs and have gained a smaller size but a bigger value in myself, my self-esteem, my energy level. I am not a diabetic, nor did I have high blood pressure, but I did have sleep apnea which is gone now...I guess how it changed my life is IT MADE ME HEALTHIER...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
