I have wondered about eating too few calories causing a stall. I just don't think I get enough in and it is slowing me down.sad.gif

UPDATE: It's well over a year since I started this thread, wow! I have remained a frustratingly slow loser and am now averaging barely 1-2 lbs per month, still hovering around 800 cals, still exercising 1-2 hours a day, 5 days a week. I am not to goal yet. The one thing I have never done in the year and a half since surgery is to go high calorie -1200- for a concerted period of time. I'm simply too afraid of what might happen.

The one thing I have never done in the year and a half since surgery is to go high calorie -1200- for a concerted period of time. I'm simply too afraid of what might happen.

I've been a frustratingly slow loser as well! I did try to go up to 1200 even 1400 calories for a period of about 3 weeks and nothing, I didn't lose anything! So I'm back to 800-1000. I did have my BMR (basal metabolic rate) done and it showed that I burn about 1400-1500 cals doing absolutely nothing. If it was simple calories in and calories out my BMR + my exercise + low calorie should work. And I do have to say that it did work for me in Jan (just last month 2012) I lost -7lbs in the whole month. I was pretty religious about logging my food, etc. and stayed within the 800-1000 range. I was shocked because I'm 15 months post-op and had spent pretty much from about 8 months-14 months stalled. Anyway, I'm going to keep the cals low and hope to get the last 20 off or so here in the next 6-8 months!

Good luck it's frustrating because what works for one person doesn't for the next etc. I think we just have to do what works best for us, but it sure is frustrating trying to figure it all out!

I would like to hear how you do! Please keep us all posted. I was advised to work on getting 90 min g. of protine and 100 min. oz of Water before switching to "solids". I am 6 days out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
