What is your "absolutely not" food?

Recommended Posts

Long time sleevers....still being in the land of mushies I am having daydreams about real food.....BUT....it made me think, there may be foods I'll never be able to have again. I'm interested if there is common ground in the foods that are no longer tolerable, especially since I've seen many people on here saying they eat foods that my RN told me would be a no go.

Long Time Sleevers, What Are Your NO Foods????

Hi, Not a long time sleever just shy of 2 months but I have yet to find a "no" food. Now I haven't eaten anything real bad no fast food, no potato chips, no Cookies, or doughnuts. I did have two bites of cheesecake on my birthday, didn't taste good and when I ate regular Jello and a juice bar the sugar did not feel great in my stomach. I have not tried diet soda yet but when I took some airborne and that tiny bit of fizz didn't feel good at all. I am able to eat bread 1/4 of a slice, rice, had some of a Stouffer's lasagne, a bit of chopped steak, a slice of bacon (not on the same day). But I believe I am way out of the norm here before surgery I had a cast Iron stomach and I think I have a cast iron sleeve.

Three months out, and anything in a tortilla wrap has made me ill, but that's just about it.

I'm 10 weeks out and can eat literally anythink, in very small amounts. Went to my nutritionist yesterday and she said that was the idea of the surgery, being able to eat a normal balanced diet but in less amounts, with the odd treat/junk,in tiny amounts, but every body/stomach reacts differently. I obviously have a very resistant stomach :D

I'm not a long-term sleever yet, but I'm about 3 months out, and can eat most things. I can't do bready stuff very well (pizza, sandwiches, etc.), but I've never thrown it up. It just doesn't settle well. Everything else I've tried has been fine. The only thing I didn't tolerate at all and did throw up was a horrific Protein Shake. Obviously, I found a new, better-tasting one.

At 16 months out, I literally do eat anything and everything. The only thing that doesn't really settle well is scrambled eggs. They just feel heavy in my sleeve, and I didn't like scrambled eggs pre-op so I'm not missing anything. On my program, the VSG is to not set up to deprive patients of certain foods. I do keep some carbs in check because they are pure sliders such as mashed potatoes, rice and Pasta. But, there is literally nothing I can not eat. I know myself well enough that if I don't eat certain foods, I'll end up binging on those foods. Moderation is the key for me so there are zero "no no " foods for me.

WHITE GRAIN BREAD...it hurt so bad going down :(...I'm just gonna stay away from it for now.

Sadly, I don't have one. Wish I couldn't tolerate the crap foods but unfortunately, they go down and stay down all too easily! :(

The only thing I might have a problem with is broccoli (which I love). Both times I've had it since surgery, I've thrown it back up about 20 minutes later... just the broccoli, not the steak I had with it. I keep meaning to try it alone and see what happens, to see if it really was the broccoli that was the problem, but never remember to!

I CAN eat anything..but I know my trigger foods and know to stay away from them.

My trigger foods are junk food of course...mostly sweets. Cake, Cookies, cookie dough, cake batter...yep I know gross huh? I LOVE cake batter.

If I can learn moderation one day....maybe I will allow myself a treat here and there...but I absolutely do not trust myself. It's a very slippery slope...have a little bit, want more, take more, keep going back for me. DANGEROUS ground that!

But like luna I think I have a cast Iron stomach too...I've had NO issues in the six months since I've had surgery...no foods have given me any problems. I can eat anything I want to.

This is really interesting to me....since my nurse made it seem like rice, bread and Pasta would kill me after the operation. And that many many other foods would just be too uncomfortable to eat. This is making me feel so much better that I might be able to have a few bites of this and that in the future! I think the only thing I am probably going to continue to avoid is diet pop, it was such a hard battle (headaches, moodiness) to get off it, why tempt the devil? lol

I am nine months out. In the beginning, I had a hard time after eating, in general, because I struggled with post-eating nausea. I do not think there was anything in particular, just felt crummy after eating. That does not happen anymore. But, there are some foods that give me heartburn. The only thing I never consume is carbonated drinks. But, that is not because i have ever had problems. I was told that this is a no-no forever. How come? Does anyone know? I really miss beer!

carbination causes alot of gas in our small tummies.. They say you can introduce it back in if you want but it might be uncomfortable.. I wouldn't know because I too am on my mushies so I'm not one to preach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
