I think I strecthed out my stomach

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Oct 6, 2009 by Dr. Almanza in Tijuana. I had absolutely no issues. Now 1 year later and 103 pounds down, Im noticing I'm eating larger portions and even thought the hunger hormone was removed, i find myself being hungry at times and my weight loss is rather stagnant. I have 2 questions. 1. Is it possible to stretch out your stomach? 2. If so what can you do to stop or reverse the stretch? I though i would be @ my goal by now, but Im 50 pounds away and the pounds are not moving!

Hi Half. Don't be discouraged. 103 pounds is an awesome achievement!! Way to go!! Quick question: are you exercising? If you are you may want to add a little more cardio to your routine. Also, eating smaller portions more often - like 6 small meals a day - may help. Lastly, I vaguely remember the doctor telling me it is possible to gain weight with the sleeve. There are a record number of bypass patients that gain all of their weight back even with their new stomach. Even knowing this, be encouraged!

Best of luck to you and keep us posted,

Niki

Youve done great! Congrats. I think you are probably still losing... just slow? My Doc said you can lose for two years... just slow at the end...keep up the good work, step up the exercise a little and mix it up a bit. Perhaps your on a stall too....If you follow the rules, I think you will be ok.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "larger portions". Are you comparing to right after surgery, 3 months out, 6 months out, etc? I think the first few months had MORE restriction that we want "full time" due to the swelling and healing. It seems like people kinda hit a new eating max (maybe from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup to sometimes up to 1 cup) during a timeframe that first year. I'm not quite 9 months, but I know I can eat more than at 6 months. But, I'm ok with that. I still have great restriction & can eat enough to keep me healthy and nurished.

Best of luck ... to get those last pounds off, try going back to basics and remembering the "Do's" and "Do Nots" ... Protein first, etc.

Keep us updated on your progress. You've done amazingly well in 1 year. CONGRATS!

It's pretty normal to be able to eat more quantities after the first 6-8 months. It's not really possible to stretch out your sleeve unless your surgeon didn't dissect the fundus completely. The fundus is where the hunger hormone is mainly produced, and it's the stretchy part of the stomach. If you can eat more that what you could at 2-3 months out, that's normal. But, the sleeve will only work if you work your sleeve. We still have to be diligent with what food choices you make.

I recommend going back to basics. Eat your Protein first, drink tons of clear fluids, and exercise. If you aren't tracking your food intake, you might want consider finding a calorie counter online that you like. Focus on Protein and fluids, cut carbs again to get the scale moving.

Ghrelin (hunger hormone) is also produced in other parts of the body. So, you might not have complete lack of hunger. Stock up on protein Snacks, and avoid slider foods.

Personally at 103 lbs down I would put the scales away, be a little conscious of what I`m eating, exercise, enjoy my success.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
