Blood Pressure Issues

Recommended Posts

Right after surgery, I experienced a significant drop in my blood pressure. It got down to 100/70, so I stopped taking my lisinopril and triamterene. My blood pressure went back up to 120/80 and I was happy. I did not check my BP for a long time, because I felt fine. However, I decided to check it again for the heck of it, and discovered to my dismay that I have hypertension going on. My BP was 161/90 yesterday and 167/97 today. I resumed taking my meds yesterday, but it is frustrating. I have lost 68 pounds, and my BP is sky high! What's up with that?

I've been on BP medicine for a few years. My primary physician, who is wonderful and sees me every 3 months, said I could get as skinny as anything but still need it, since it is hereditary and runs in my family. Could be you're just predisposed to high BP.

Jordien,

Well, crap. I have hypertension, so I know how frustrating that is. One of my friends had VSG and her BP stayed high too. Not fair, is it? Mine has gone down at last reading (120/80) but I see I still need to monitor it. I agree with #50, it may just be the (bad) luck of your gene pool. My mother was hypertensive and not overweight, so mine may not stay down, either. Sigh.

I'm still trying to figure out the BP thing too. I was getting very light-headed and stopped the lisinopril. I still have the metropolol, though. At my 5wk follow-up I had lost ~40lb and my BP was 120/80. Hopefully as the weight drops off your BP will come down as well. But it is very possible that we'll require some amount of meds for the rest of our lives. Keep checking in with your doc and stay on top of that BP. Good luck!

I take Metropolol too, for a-fib. My doc said that if my heart stays pretty normal, he can reduce the med...don't think I can ever stop it though....it lowers the BP too, which is usually very low now like 100/74 (except when I go to the Drs of course!)

I didn't have BP issues until after surgery. While in the hospital, it kept going higher and higher, like 162/90 range. So now I'm on BP meds, but my surgeon says that should go away.

I sure as hell hope so.

I have a ton of PVCs if I don't have the metropolol. Right now I'm at max dosage for that, but as the BP comes down then I'll start backing off that too. Hopefully at 1/2 the dosage I'll still get the benefits of heart regulation. fingers crossed!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
