Drain Removal

Recommended Posts

Did having the drain removed post op hurt? I get mine taken out tomorrow and it's sore as it is, probably from all the moving around it has received. I'm a little worried and appreciate any expectations that can be offered.

The feeling is really tough to describe. For me, it was not painful, but it was quite uncomfortable - like all of my internal organs were being pulled through that one incision.

I literally felt nothing... no sliding sensation, no pulling at the port... I had no idea he'd taken it out until I saw the thing in his hand!

Whew! Either way that isn't bad. Thank you for helping me feel more at ease. I'm hoping for feeling nothing since I'm still kind of numb to the touch around it.

It is FREAKY! It does not hurt like it will bring you to tears in pain. It is just weird. My doc. had me take a few deep breaths and then one deep breath in and he did it... I was like oh my god that was weird!!!! and they all laughed at me. It's also a very quick thing. FREAKY! That's all I have to say. But not painful. Good luck! Post back how you did!

I agree -- not painful, just a little weird -- I did feel tugging and the tube snaking it's way inside of my but it wasn't painful, just weird.

I agree...it didn't hurt but it wasn't a very comfortable feeling. Very hard to describe.

I had a drain put in a few wks after surgery. The nurse came in to take it out and tugged a few times and I finally had to tell her to get someone else to do it. The charge nurse from that shift came in and gave it a few tugs, and I was in such pain, she went to get a dr. The dr tugged once, the pulled some slight tension on it and could see that it had been stitched in on the under side of it. Once the clipped the stitch, it slid right out.

But, I had some other stuff going on is why they stitched it I guess. So it's probably not common to have it done that way.

Besides me, I have never heard of anyone really say it hurt. The reason I told you all of this, is on the SLIGHT chance it doesn't want to come out, tell them to check for a stitch, LOL.

I do have stiching in it because I can see it. The nurses in the hospital dropped the pouch to it a few times so maybe it pulled it out a little. Thank you for the heads up though :) Appointment in about an hour. But thanks to everyone here I'm not as worried.

OMG... im going to be honest because I was really hoping it wouldnt be that bad but my experience was just insane!! nothing out of the ordinary he just took it out but i screamed so loud im sure the whole wing heard me!! ... it hurt me a little bit but the feeling of all of your organs being shifted by a foreign body really freaked me right out!! I have been told that its different for everyone so hang in there.. once its out its out and you dont ever have to worry about it again!!!! <3

It's different for everyone of course-- the poor girl that had hers removed ahead of me screamed like a banshee. To me it just felt weird and kindof gross, I had a bit of a gag reaction to it. Afterward though-- RELIEF. I could take deep breaths! Euphoria.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
