i got surgery sept 29th. i did the first week of Clear Liquids only. on the 2nd week i got the ok to eat yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, milk. thing is i get hungry!! so i have crackers here and there. i feel like i can eat alot, surley not like i ate b4 but for example i make my oatmeal with 4oz of milk and 2 tablespoons of finely processed oatmeal. it makes for a child portion more or less. i can eat it all! is that ok? shouldnt i be eating like a bird? i can drink Water. i can gulp it! why? i hear everyone else here cannot. im scared my surgeon might have left my stomach too big. i didnt do this drastic surgery to loose 40lbs. this afternoon i ate a piece of toasted bread about the size of my palm. is this ok? this early?

Are you released to eat those things? If not, then the answer is no you shouldn't be eating those things. You aren't going to get a true full signal because your stomach nerves have been cut, severed, stapled off. Crackers and bread are wasted calories and carbs if you're trying to maximize your weight loss, grab some low fat cheese, or something that is mostly Protein based. If you are getting hungry, is it because you're eating slider foods and not getting in enough Protein?

If you aren't on an acid reducer, over production of acid can cause hunger, talk to your surgeon about taking prilosec, nexium or protonix to help with those issues. Check out the other topics on here about reflux, you'll see it's a common problem. Also, not all sleeve patients lose their hunger completely, it's a great thing for some, but not everyone is the same. You also have to take into consideration that the hormone that causes hunger is still in your body, it takes a few weeks for it to work it's way out of your body.

Just because you can eat that amount, doesn't mean you should. Measure your food and stick to your dietary guidelines, it's there to help you change your habits, and protect your staple line. Track your food intake to make sure you are getting in all your protein, carbs, calories and fluids.

I don't know your surgeon, but if you trusted him to perform the surgery, trust that he did it properly, and the rest is on you to make this tool work. Be grateful that you can drink without issue, maybe you don't have a lot of swelling, focus on protein first and stick to the prescribed post-op diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
