My dear, this will all soon be very worthwhile to you. I had people in my life who loved me and who I felt like were being unsupportive, but I have since realized that for most of them it was some type of fear. Fear of my having surgical complications, fear that I won't succeed, fear that my weight loss will alter my relationships with them....this is yours. People quickly become more supportive when they see you physically, spiritually, and emotionally become the version of you that you want to be. Keep posting here, you will always have plenty of support and info!

I can relate. I was sleeved on the 27th and while my mother knew and was on board, we didn't tell my father until the morning of the surgery. As in, when I was in the hospital going through the admittance process. Not the best idea and he didn't speak to me the rest of the time I was at their house recovering. However, we've made peace and I think he's realizing that 1) my body, my choice and 2) in the end, it will all be worth it.

Keep your head up and don't stress. Just take this time to relax and prepare. Good luck to you tomorrow!

Just wanted to say good luck on the big day! Anna is spot on - any people that are negative right now are worried and will likely come around when they see the changes in you. You'll be a happier, healthier person inside and out in a few months, and they won't be able to help responding to that.

Wishing you a swift, smooth recovery!

~Cheri

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
