M2G 1,836 Posted October 8, 2010 I still don't have a date yet for my surgery, everything is sitting on my bariatric nurse's desk (and she will be on vacation ALL next week....aaaargh!), but I am still hoping for an Oct. date. Waiting for a call back from my surgeon's office on this topic but thought I would ask here too... Should I do my flu shot before surgery? I'm leaning towards yes, especially since it takes 2 week for the shot to take effect. Just seems like hospitals are such good breeding grounds for flu germs (among others.) Anyone else have some words of wisdom or thoughts on this subject?
laylasmojo 10 Posted October 9, 2010 I actually just sent my dr almost the same question mine being since my work is giving free shots three days before my surgery should i have it doe or is it to close to surgery? When I get an answer(which should be tonight) I will post and let you know and maybe it will help
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted October 9, 2010 I think it's a good idea, get it ASAP so it kicks in before you are there. I wouldn't get it RIGHT before or shortly after surgery, though, because some of these shots are pretty tough on you. I had regular and H1N1 shots at the same time last year and didn't feel 100% for about 3 days. The first day after, I could barely stand up! I essentially had a mild flu for 3 days, lol. M2G 1,836 Posted October 10, 2010 Well, I called on Fri. and apparently my surgeon's office phones were messed up. So I left a message with their answering service and never got a reply. I think I will just go ahead and do it anyway. My surgery is likely to happen for at least another 2 weeks.
laylasmojo 10 Posted October 10, 2010 So I just got back a responce to the email I sent my dr about getting the flu shot three days before my surgey and she siad not to get it because I might get sick. So if your guna get it make sure you have plenty of time before you surgery!
