I have finished my 3 month multi discipline needed for insurance. I didn't want to quit during that because I couldn't afford the weight gain that I always get when I quit. I am starting vacation next week so I figured it would be the ideal time to quit. I am also going to give up my pepsi which is my true love in life. Wish me luck and hopefully I won't bite anyone's head off this week. Lol

Good Luck! I quit using Chantix 2 months ago. Unfortunately, that time was also part of my 3 month diet required by insurance, and instead of losing, I've gained 15 pounds. :( It really sucks. My surgery will probably be delayed for several months because of it, but at least I'm smoke free (My doctor requires 2 months smoke free before he will do surgery). I have to say, that first week with no smoking, I made a coworker cry. Not smoking made me mean! Good Luck and try not to be too tough on those around you!

Hi Lisa, I quit smoking on Sept. 19th using the middle level patch (Nicoderm). I was on the patch for about 10 days and then cold turkey as of last Friday. I was raging for about 2 days and then it all got better. As of today, I am only craving the habit of it but I am not nicotine deprived. I am also on Kaiser's pre-op diet (low low carbs) and have actually lost about 10 pounds in 3 weeks - woo hoo!! You can totally do it. Just remember it is mind over matter and ask the people around you to be patient - lol!! My boyfriend is a smoker so I just can't go outside with him to smoke anymore but otherwise i like that my senses are better and I am breathing better too. I wish you the best. :)

Good luck. I quit September 1st with the commit lozenges they worked great. I did gain about 10 lbs but for the first time in 15 years I am a non-smoker. AWESOME I have my surgery November 25th. I feel better knowing I have done EVERYTHING to be healthier pre surgery.

I tried to quit back in July, then again in the begining of Aug. Then had a consult with my surgeon and he said that he wasn't going to ask that I quit. But 3wks before my surgery I just decided that was it! I want to be healthy in every way! I quit cold turkey and then a wk into it I started my 2wk pre-op liquid diet! YIKES! But I made it and am now smoke free for about 2.5 months! I still get the urge when I'm around other people that smoke, but then I remember how far I have come, and how hard it was to get there. I don't ever want to go back! Stay strong! You can do it!

I quit smoking in March I was sick spent two days in hospital did real good for going cold turkey then in May i started back just a few puffs here and there stopped again in Aug for surgery was doing good until about week ago started back a few puffs here and there. I can't seem to get past the 2 month thing don't know whats wrong with me i'm trying it just so damn hard whenever you've smoked for 30+ years. I know all the bad things like they stink, make you have bad breath, I really don't even like the taste of them anymore I really think its just for my nerves maybe I need some meds to help I don't really know Good luck I really hope you can do it. :)

You can do it...

I packed up the smokes 4 weeks ago after I had pneumonia and a two day stay in hospital... didn't enjoy that one bit!

Unfortunately I gained 6lb... I've lost some of it but I am struggling to get the last 2-4lb off... but I will do it!

Back to the gym for me next week...!!

Good luck =]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
