Recovery Time

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled to have my VSG in early November and my doctor said I should take two weeks off of work. I work in an office, holding down a chair all day, nothing physical whatsoever. I highly doubt I'd be able to get that much time off. I was told by the nurse that I'll only be in the hospital over night, but she also said to take 2 weeks off. Can those of you that had surgery tell me what a realistic recovery time would be? Thanks!

i had the same question and i am being told it all depends on your body and how well you recover. some said they were off a week, one menber said she had surgery on a wednesday and was cleared for work the following monday. i guess how well your body responds to what happen to it. me personally, i am taking two weeks off just to be on the safe side and like you i do office work nothing too physical but i want to make sure i give myself enough time to adjust to what has happen to my body. your are a little further in the process. i,m only three months in and my insurance company has a six month waiting period. i done most of my testing. i have my sleep study at the end of the month.

I think recovery varies for each person, but I was very weak and not feeling good for at least 10 days after the surgery. I know that's not what you want to hear, but I know there are others who have bounced right back -- :/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
