Hi everyone, My name is Julie and I have started the process to have my sleeve done. I went in for my weight-in appointment and to go through all of my medical history yesterday. I got some good news and some bad news...... good news is I lost 6lbs since Monday not even trying to lose it........ Bad news is they are going to do a stomach scope on Tuesday because of my past history with peptic ulcer disease. Has anyone ever had this done? If so, If they find something will this be a determining factor on whether or not they will do the sleeve?

I was scoped during my gallbladder surgery this past February. They've been performing gastrectomies for peptic ulcers for decades upon decades, and the sleeve would be a better option for you over RNY or the Band. The risk of ulcer with a "pouch" is much higher than with the sleeve. You might have a different post-op acid reducer medication regimen to control acid production, and you might have to have a different dietary guideline due to the pre-existing condition of peptic ulcers. I recommend checking out some of the ulcer forums for more information regarding gastrectomies for ulcerative conditions so you can get some firsthand experience from other patients who have already had partial gastrectomies.

Keep us posted on your progress and let us how things go for you after your scope appointment.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
