GB vs VGS pain

Recommended Posts

Well all, I had my gall bladder surgery yesterday. I feel like I just got run over by a Mack truck and then it backed up and went over me again I'm having a lot of gas pains but it has settled in the lower right side of my belly. Moving and burping helps alot! Dr said this will comparable to the pain I will have with my VGS. If that is the case, I think its doable but definately uncomfortable. Around 2 am, I had to get in the recliner to get some sleep and relief. Hubby is awesome. He's taking care of the house and the kiddos, he even came downstair and slept on the sofa in case I needed some thing. Oh and Get This!!! They counted 50 gall stones!!!!!! I couldn't believe it.

On a great note, the dr is finally able to put in for my VGS and should here something in a week or two!!! Maybe I'll be a November sleever!!!

What so you think? Is having your gall bladder remove feel like a VGS operation?

I'm sorry you have having such a difficult time but this is a great example of how people are so different. My Sweetie had his gall bladder out a while back and he never took the first pain pill. It was outpatient and he had me stop on the way home and he went into a grocery store to get a couple of things he'd forgotten. I was with him of course but he didn't seem phased by the whole thing.

Did the doctor tell you the pain level was similar before the surgery? Or did he tell you that after he knew the level of pain you were having?

I've actually been sort of banking on my VGS being at least similar to the GB surgery. But I want my guy's version, not yours! : )

Hope you are feeling better soon.

He said the pain will be the same for both. My problem is I'm allergic to Ibprohen so I can't get any of the good meds :( This is my first surgery too so I just wasn't expecting the pain, but I'm on day three and I'm moving soooo much better. The other good thing is that I am going to be in hosp for three days instead of outpt for the VGS so I can get more meds like morphine. I pray you have a easy time like hubby :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
