Just got home today from my surgery. I was sleeved on Monday and other than the 4 hour delay it went great. I went in so hungry and still have yet to get hungry. The gas pains have not been bad but the soreness is bad. How long should I expect to be sore? Did anyone else pull their pain ball thing out at home? Did it hurt? And one last question, did anyone else have problems eating cold stuff like the popsicles?

I pulled my pain ball out at home... didnt hurt at all. Have someone else to it so you dont freak yourself out. Get used to not wanting to eat that is still with me 1 month later. popsicles were good BUT I had to hold it in my mouth a little so it was not as cold. The pain for me faded quickly but then again I had a C Section in 2005 and this pain to me was far less than that. Just go easy and rest. Drink as much Protein as possible to heal and you will be great. Good Luck!

My pain lasted about eight days, but I am a WIMP! I don't know what a pain ball is so I can't help you there. I sincerely enjoyed popsicles when I got home. Was one of the only things that I could really tolerate right away.

Good advice to take it easy, walk around as much as you can because that really helped speed my healing.

Good luck!!

What the heck is a pain ball? I am going to get my sleeve done next Friday, and I have never heard of a pain ball!

Rest up and feel better!

Consider me a wimp. Adverse to all types of pain. But...what is a pain ball? I had neither a pain ball or a drain. Took liquid tylenol with codine for about 3 days and not really for pain but more to sleep longer periods of time. Focus on getting in liquids. Hot/cold bothered me, all was room tempature for about 5 days. Now I only like hot or cold, nothing in between.

Every day gets better. You will read this from others often. It is true. Amazed at how the body rebounds. Good luck!

I still get woozy when I drink something too cold and Popsicles fall in there. Don't even worry about eating right now. I don't think I touched anything remotely solid until I had been home three days. The pain lasts about a week, but gets better each day. I am two weeks out and no pain at all.

The pain ball is a a ball of anestesia that was in my left side to help with the incision pain. When the ball deflated (meaning all the meds were gone) I just pulled the tube out. So I bad a pain ball on the left and the drain on the right... yes I was lookin mad sexy!!

I had a pain ball and carried him with me everywhere. I patted him and held him and called him "George." The instructions I got with it said not to take it out yourself at home but let the doc do it. I had it from Friday to Monday and was never so glad to get rid of an accessory in my life! It itched like crazy! And no matter where I put him, he sat on my stitches. When I went out I wore him like a huge necklace. Got a few looks but I was far away from home, so I didn't care.

George was like a pain pump that you didn't have to hit - a smart pain pump.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
