Getting so scared

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe that my surgery is in 10 days! i am getting s little freaked out by the whole thing. You would think that I wouldn't be since I had a band and all, but I don't know what is wrong with me. I keep having these fears! Maybe it is because I am going to Mexico, but I feel confident in my choice of Drs, and I feel that Dr Aceves will take awesome care of me. My mom is going with me and I know she will not let anything happen to me. i don't know I'm just freaking out, maybe it is because i have been eating like a normal person again for the past 3 weeks, and LOVIN food so much! Maybe i'm afraid I'm going ot miss it again like I did when I first got my band, but i know i won't cause i'm slowly gaining weight, and I hate myself for letting this happen.

PLEASE tell me i'm over reacting!!!!

thanks for letting me rant on.

Patti

I think that anytime you have major surgery, it's a little scary. That said, I believe that the VSG is the best present anyone could give themselves. You are so lucky to be able to do this, so lucky that you are in a position to help yourself! So, yes, scary feeling are normal before surgery, but think about what it will be like on the other side and losing weight :) I can't help but smile when I think what it will be like a year from now :)

I completely understand. There are times when I think, "WHAT AM I DOING???" It is so hard with revision because we have already failed once. I am so happy that we get a second chance with our sleeves. Stay positive! You can do it! Keep us posted and I can't wait to hear about all the weight you will be losing~

I'm right there with you. My revision is in 14 days - god I can't believe it!

I am freaking out and having second thoughts just like I did with my band: maybe I can do it on my own, maybe I should just buy an elliptical trainer, maybe . . .

But I know this will be a good thing.

I had the band and went from the band to the sleeve at the end of July this year. I had my surgery on a Tuesday. The week before I was soooo scared. By Thursday of the week before I was going to call and cancel my surgery. Then I decided not to be hasty and talked myself into waiting and knew I could cancel right up to the last minute. I prayed constantly about it and by Friday I was calm and sure about my decision. I wasn't even nervous the morning of surgery. The prayer time about it really helped. Now I'm 2 1/2 months out and it's the best thing I've done. I feel great. It's totally different that the band. With the band food got stuck all the time and I had heart burn and felt bad and then gained 60 of the 100 lbs that I lost back. With the sleeve I don't feel any different than the normal I felt before my band. It's been wonderful to feel good again. I"m 2 1/2 months out and I've lost 40 lbs. I've stalled for 2 week intervals too so though I get frustrated feeling I'm losing slow when I stop and think about it 40 lbs in 2 1/2 months is a lot. Good luck and don't worry it will be great!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
